SERK3 Oil Cooler Mounting help
« on: October 13, 2007, 08:30:51 PM »

REmoved the oil cooler yesterday to clean all the road crap that accummulates on the oil residue under the cooler.  When remounting it seemed easier to put the cooler on  top of the chrome cover and then on top of the bracket with the nuts up against the black bracket, not chrome cover.  Is this right?
I have the manuals the parts seems to show the chrome cover on the bootom, byt the SM Supplement was not clear.

Can someone walk out to their garage please and verify?

Thanks

skreminegul07,

I think you'll find that the folks with the SEEG's and CUSE's were kicking this same thing around some time ago.  I've had mine off several times (for cleaning, for access to footboard bolt, to change motor mount), but if I remember correctly it was originally set up from the factory with the black bracket sandwiched between the cooler and the chrome cover.  I prefer to mount it the way you did, with the cooler, then the cover, then the black bracket.  This makes it easier to remove and reinstall in the future, and has no adverse affect on the operation of the cooler.  In other words, as far as I'm concerned there is no wrong way.

It looked like it would work fine for me, much easier to R&R to clean.  Maybe I'll remove it before changing the oil filter each time.  Man that is such a pain in the a$$ they way the oil filter access is blocked by the cooler adapter and everything else.  Either a strap wrench or I am goint to go with the K&N oil filters next time.

Do the AMSOIL filters have the nut on the bottom for removal?

Thanks guys.
