Trailer and Hitch
« on: September 07, 2007, 09:34:28 PM »

I'm thinking about purchasing a hitch and trailer to tow behind the scoot. Any suggestions, ideas and comments are welcome.

DON'T DO IT!   You drag a trailer home and immediately family members will start getting sick screwing up your vacations, your dealership will get stupider than normal and turn a one day dyno tune in to a two week tragicomedy and AJ will threaten to come visit you in Hot Springs :o .  It's just not worth it man!

Or.... try this.  The more recent threads I remember have discussed Bushtec and Escapade trailers.  Those threads also discussed hitches.  Just use "search" up above and look by either of those entries.  You should find plent to occupy your reading for an hour.

For me it's always been the Travel Gods Howie.  They're real man.  Sometimes they'll kick back and leave you alone for awhile.  Just to lull you in a to a false sense of security.  Then, WHAMMO, they come back with a vengeance.  Anywhere in the world, in ways you can't even comtemplate before hand; they're out there man.  Sometimes it's like they're dangling a worm along in front of you.  Just leading along from little chit to little chit.  And other times they drop a storm of sudden WHAMMO and you're like, "where the hell did that come from."  But no should doubt that they're out there.  Their sole entertainment and purpose in life is to screw with us.  Whenever and however they want to.  And at least one of those bastards doesn't like trailers!

I personally think it's this grizzled old bastard .  But I no better then to taunt the old fart.  It just pisses him off.

Not sure what the problem might have been.  But try again.  Just tried one search using the workd Bushtec as a keyword and got many many responses.  Then tried another using the word hitch and got many many more.  It's there.  Give it a try.

Cerdo,

I'm also thinking about a trailer. Along with the brands mentioned above, I've looked at many more.

This link http://www.american-legend.com/models/models_sport.asp is the model I like best. The shape is the same as the saddle bags, and has HD tail lights and turn signals. Since the MoCo won't release our paint codes, I'll probably just go with black. Called them for a quote, and told them that I would pick it up instead of having it shipped (a good excuse for a ride), and also asked them about a hitch. They said that they would install the hitch free since I would be there to get it. Also, when traveling, the tires can be replaced at any Walmart, if necessary. Not the case with Bushtec.

My wife wants the trailer, but said that I would have to wait a few more months after the CVO purchase . . .

I have a legend and they are great trailer, hardly know it's back there.  Mama can take all the shoes she wants!  Gets all the weight off the bike.  They can paint it to match your bike no problem.  Get the Bushtec hitch and isolator.

Cerdo,

May be plowing the same furrow but....  If you do your search in this topic, you will only find items in this topic.  Go to "HOME" and try it there.  I found 24 pages of "trailer"

Cerdo,

I just ordered a hitch for my new bike:  www.hitchdoc.com
Hitch Doc has fixed and hidden receiver-type hitches.  I had a fixed-type hitch on the last bike and you always have to look at them.  Going with the hidden receiver-type on the new scoot.  Paying $299 for the hidden hitch for my SEUC.

Several types of trailers out there.  Cool cargo trailers - to - small pop-up tent trailers.  If you buy them new, they are all too expensive.  I had trouble justifying the cost of a new one, considering how much I would actually use it.  If you are patient, you can eventually find exactly (except paint) what you are looking for on eBay or the like and then have it painted (if that is a big deal for you) to match your scoot.

I bought a Bushtec trailer and hitch at the HOG National in Knoxville.  I love the trailer and the hitch bracket is nearly invisible when you remove the hitch.  They are a top notch outfit.  I dealt with the owner of the company, and he is very customer oriented.  Told me if I didn't like the trailer, bring it back and he would give me my money back.  They also use run-flat tires on their trailers.   :2vrolijk_21:
