Is the SE 6-speed transmission standard on 110 CVOs?  I thought the '07 and '08 CVSs had standard cruise drive trannys.

All '07 and '08 Big Twins have the Cruise Drive 6-speed Transmissions, including CVO's.

No. The Cruise Drive 6-speed transmission which comes in all 2007 and later big twins is not the same as the Screaming Eagle 6-Speed that was available in the P&A catalog as an upgrade for the stock 5-speed trannies.

They are two totally different animals.  ;D

Hey Jorge, did you have the dreaded 'whine' with either of them?  :nixweiss: spyder

I feel better with SE-6 Speed in my CUSE '06 than the 6-speed in the Springer '06.....I believe that  :indian_chief: is right    :2vrolijk_21:

Dear Folks,

Gears, especially "straight cut" or "spur" gears, tend to make noise.  This is true of gears in a Harley tranny, gears in your lawn tractor, gears in the rear axle in your pick-em-up truck, gears in a piece of industrial equipment, etc.  The amount of noise that gets transmitted to the outside world will vary depending on the accuracy of the machining of the gear teeth, the actual fit of the gear teeth to each other, and the design of the rest of the component containing the gears.  The noise you're hearing in 1st and 5th in a typical Cruise Drive trans is the same noise you would have heard in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th in the previous transmission.  The fact that the Cruise Drive uses much quieter helical gears for 2nd, 3rd,4th, and 6th is what makes the normal straight cut gear noise in 5th more evident.  Everything is relative.

If the noise is that bothersome, throw some wood shavings / saw dust in your trans lube to dampen the noise.  That always helped in the old days when trying to sell an old car with a noisy rear end.   ::)

I saw that episode of Andy of Mayberry (or was it Mayberry RFD?) back when I was a kid.  Deputy Barney (Don Knotts) bought a car with saw dust in it to make it sound nice when he took it for a test drive.  I always wondered if they did things like that, and if it worked.
