Cruise Buddy throttle lock
« on: April 19, 2005, 10:57:18 PM »

I would love to be able to install cruise like on the baggers but no place to hide the servo, so here is the second best solution ive found.

Take a look at this:

http://www.cruisemount.com/

I did one of these on a buddy's 03 Fatboy a year or so ago and it wasn't a tough chore.

Thanks for the heads up on the cruisemount servo 2lane. Was unaware of this option but I looked at the pics and frankley it doesnt fit in with the look I'm going for. I like things you cant see and the chrome servo cover they have kind of sticks out a little more than to my liking. Not to mention I got so much crap inside my handlebars with the handlebar heaters I dont think I could get the control wiring jamed in there.

I understand where you're coming from Reo.  On the buddy's Fatboy I did the install on he loved it.  Just thought it was great.  But he really really really wanted the cruise control.

For me.... well, the chrome cover wasn't atrocious.  But it wasn't anything I'd have wanted to do to my own  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I don't know how they work.  I didn't know about this thread.

I purchased one from www.cruise-mate.com for my wife's FB..  I'll let you know how it does.

Had it on for a while, works ok if its adjusted corectly. This was the only one I knew of back in 2004. Not like cruise control but sure is easier than the stock wheel that comes on the softail. Its a quality piece I think it was about 100 bucks if memory serves.

I belive a company in Canada has one just like it (alot cheaper) and chrome. I believe it was Mc Kay or something like that. I remember he also makes softail bagger brackets. Cant comment on the quality of his but it is chrome.

If your still interested, I hooked up with a small company that called theirs "Throttlemate".

http://throttlemate.com/

simple and not bulky, stays on with a touch of blue loctite. Same principle as others, but ya have to set it for higher tension and rpm's for throttle locking use at higher speeds.

Nice people to work with; I spoke with Dianna I think.

Oh yeah, it is inexpensive, and they ship quickly.

Here's the cruisemate on my wife's Fatboy.  $50 and an hours time well spent.  Kit included the drill bit, drilling jig, and tap.  Takes little movement to lock/unlock compared to the stock thread pitch..

I just got one of these & fitted it. It is an unbelievable little kit with everything that you need (thats what amazed me the most, a drill bit, a tap & a jig) & also very easy to install.

All that for $54.95 +  $7.20 shipping to Australia. Free shipping within USA

It is definately an engineering masterpiece & infinitely adjustable in 2 seconds with no tools. Did I mention how cheap it was!

The cruise-mate itself is made up of 7 pieces & then you get the installation kit. It is probably the best value for money part I have ever purchased & it works well too!

Cheers

I in turn, did the exact opposite, spent over $35,000 for electronic cruise control on a new SE Road King.

Ok, kinda high in the price range, but wow, ya can't beat my cruise control with a 7 piece kit. lol

Just kidding folks.
