That is great news, have em check oil leaks too, etc.  IMO

Dealer says motor not blown. The starter motor grenaded and parts and pieces jammed ring gear and clutch locking the engine and rear wheel.  After talking with factory rep. there going to replace the stater, ring gear and clutch and everything will be covered under warranty.

That is great news (I think).  VIN, don't hesitate to grill them for information.  It is quite literally your butt on the line if they can't give a reasonable explanation for an unengaged starter grenading while you're going 55 mph down the highway.

May also want to consider upgrading to a chrome starter at this time if that's your thing. I'd even ask if they would do an even swap for your pain and suffering (sphincter muscle being unable to relax for several days after this incident :)). Even if they will not pay for the upgrade to chrome it would be cheaper for you paying the upgrade to chrome price on the starter if they are covering labor.

This is the follow-up, got the bike back in one week. They replaced the starter pinion gear, clutch assy, primary housing and all gaskets. Total cost was $978.65 with labor. The dealer told me the factory thinks some bad ring gears might have gotten out this year, and this was the cause of my engine locking up. Bike runs fine so far.

Good to read you're running again.  Just to clarify though, that nearly thousand dollar bill was the warranty cost?  You didn't get soaked for any of this?

WHEW! I don't have to get up on my soap box the...I agree that they should check crank run out and address all the oil leak issues before before they gave it back to you, but I am glad to hear your up and running again. What model are you riding? Did they upgrade your starter? Curious minds want to know...keep it between the ditches!

I'm riding an 07 FXSTSSE, the dealer did not check crank run out. When I mentioned it to them they gave me the deer in the headlight look. They said I was the first person to bring back a 110ci. screaming eagle bike with problems. They did look at the oil leaks and tightened up everything.
