My Order is in
« on: September 23, 2007, 08:30:49 AM »

Ok, so I found out yesterday that my plan to order a SERK is in fact a GO.  I ordered it through the AAFES Military Sales and originally, there was no guarantee that I would get a CVO.  My salesmen hooked me up and it'll be in ND waiting for me to return from Iraq and Germany.

Only one potential problem.  It has California emmissions.  Can somebody tell me what exactly that means?  Will it have any effect on performance or future mods?  I plan on putting pipes and some type of high flow intake at a minimum.

And how loud are the stock pipes.  If they have a decent Harley sound, then I may not need to replace them.  Either way, I've got at least another year of wish list shopping before I can actually lay my hands on my new CVO.

Thanks for the info.

Congrats!!! Don't know about the Ca. emissions but you'll want pipes and high flow anyway to open up the engine. It's a pretty quiet bike stock (for a Harley). Good luck and stay safe!!!!!!!! :orange:

Congrats on getting your CVO. I found this information on another thread...

tomgeb,

The carbon canister on the CA models is similar to the one on all cars and light trucks for the past 20-30 years.  The purpose is to capture fuel vapors that would otherwise be vented directly to the atmosphere and create smog, and then release those vapors into the carb or throttle body while the engine is running.  I have no first hand knowledge of the '06 system, but the earlier models were pretty basic designs that could be easily removed if you so desired.  I would suggest getting your hands on the '06 Touring service manual for a schematic of the system as well as removal and installation instructions for the components.  Should be in section 4, Fuel System.  The canister itself should still be under the battery tray.

BTW, the older models I've seen had no direct connection to the ECM so removing the system shouldn't set a code.  Just make sure you plug up the port on the throttle body where the purge line attaches so you don't wind up with an air leak.  And I seriously doubt you will see a noticeable performance difference with the system installed or removed.

Jerry
Hopefully someone that has removed this will give you more information. Stay safe.

You might want to do a little research. I have visited the factory in York and man is it awesome!!!!! Back to the point, coming from California the state has the biggest EPA laws. Not to scare you just do a looking around. the censors need some looking at.  ;)

EPA laws?  I'm originally from a farm in ND, so EPA laws have never been an issue.  I'm mainly curious how much I would theoretically have to remove in order to do some performance mods and if, in theory, this stuff was removed, would it cause any problems.

Understand what you are saying, however, walking through the tour factory in York the gentlemen stated the color code. Certain bikes going to different locations are tagged differently, Porte Rico, HI, Cal. California recieves its own codes due to the EPA laws. I understand you are not in CAl, but the bike is made to meet the strict EPA laws. What you can do is call a dealership in San Diego and ask them what mods can be done w\o much hassle. Or ask around the site that might help you out...  Any hooooooo! good luck! :bananarock:
