good habit to change lifters and cam chains/tensioner shoes every 20000 miles.

that said, at your mileage, i would be looking at oil pupm also.

I had a valve guide (2004 SEEG) make intermittent tapping sounds until it stuck the valve and hit the piston and bent a rod.  I'd have a competent technician use a stethoscope on the engine to try to narrow down the area that the noise is coming from...then disassemble and inspect.

Or, like I did, wait until you're 400 miles away from your home-dealer and let it blow.
Good luck.

You only change the oil every 8,000 miles if you want to  ;D That's it, but then again it only a goldwing and nothing special.

The whole idea of having to check on tensioners is just plain funny. And really I would not go over 10K for a inspection. Bottom line HD has problems with that entire set up. You can worry about it or swap in a gear drive and billet cam plate and forget about it.

Example i bought a new LTR450 quad. They have a issue with the shifter support breaking off and ruining the case. Cost on the parts over 150 bucks my labor 5 hours to take apart a brand new bike.  State of mind knowing that I can enjoy my riding time in the dunes , pricless. Just saying

Oh the warranty on a 9k quad is 6 months.
