Wow, cool video. I wonder how much the guy riding the bike actually saw. It looks like at the last second he turns his head toward the charging deer.
Closest I ever came was with a moose. I headed down route 9 in Maine at around 55mph and I got a mile or two down the road and then realized I had forgotten my wallet. I turned around and rode back and when I was almost back to where I started I see an ambulance just pulling up, a dark shape just off the road, a chrome headlight ring in the road, then I notice a bike off the road.
I stopped but they didn't need any help. He was about 1/2 mile behind me and a moose had run out of the woods in front of him. The bike went under the moose, he slammed into its side and his wife slammed into him. She broke her arm, he broke a lot of things and was in the ICU for a couple of weeks and in the hospital for almost 2 months.
He's lucky someone saw it happen and called 911. He's also lucky he was only about 1.5 miles past a (Gooserocks?) fire company/ambulance crew. I am still amazed at how fast they responded to the accident, not like when I was in New York and you were lucky if the ambulance would get there before Dominoes could deliver.
The police officer tracked the moose around 3 miles through the woods then gave up. He figured if it made it 3 miles it probably was not critically injured and did not need to be euthanized. I always thought if I had left 30 seconds later...
