Harley Production Terminology
« on: October 15, 2007, 01:01:17 PM »

My 105th Edition SE Ultra is still not here after a September 28th shipping date.  In checking with the Sales Manager and pushing for some information he gave me the following York terminology.  He said that when York posts '"IN PROCESS" it means the bike is being built, or has been built or is complete and sitting in an area awaiting transportation to the shipping area.

The next post will be "IN TRANSIT" which means that the bike is somewhere between end of assembly but has not been transported to the shipping dock. Final post is when bike reaches the shipping dock and is issued a ship date and VIN #.  Has anyone else had conversations with Harley dealer people using this terminology?

No my dealer is brilliant - he refuses to give a date only an indication when he is expecting it to arrive.  He does this because new owners are always on the phone badgering "is it in yet", which works for me.  I waited 7 months for my SERK and it was well worth the wait.

Smiler,

I got the same answer on mine -- none of the detail that some of the other guys talk about.  And I agree.  It was well worth the wait.

We were really lucky. I called around to find a SERK and found a dealer who was told by HD MoCo not to sell any '08's until they sold more of the '07's on the floor. The sales guys must not have known this CVO was in their receiving area because of the long wait on the phone finding the list of CVO's that they had (they had four - one of each model). They came back with news that they had this SERK still in the crate so I put a deposit on it, but had to wait a couple of weeks to get it prepared. It was worth it. My wife loves my SERK! I believe she may think it's hers  :xyxthumbs:

i picked up my se aniv. ultra yesterday.  ordered 7/25.  orriginal ship date was 9-21.  arrived at dealer about 5 days after it got a vin #.  looks like the moco is running about 3 wks. behind, so hopefully yours is due soon.  Mine is #179 of 1800.  If you want extended warranty, the finance guy told me 1900.  I told him i could shop dealers and get it much cheaper.  he said let me make $100, and take it for 1,600, so i did.  hope this helps,   jackyass

same here. i'm 65 next month.  87 softail, 01 roak king, 05 eg se, now 08 ultra.  figure i'll just keep this one till i'm to scared or feeble to ride.  (not likely to happen to soon) I hope.. + with all the systems on this bike that could go wrong + talk of the 110 engine having some problems, i figured this was a piece of equip. that it may pay off on.  I never get extended warranties..the main reason santa is so jolly is because he knows where all the naughty girls live.  JWE

Hi all,

:nervous: Have a new one for you today. Got off the phone with my dealer and they now claim that the bike is in "Reserved" status on the MoCo order status web-site! Acording to the dealer this means that the bike is built (IE: not in production) and is ready to ship; however, has not shipped nor has there been a VIN assigned.  Ship date still shows 9/25!  Don't know what to think  :nixweiss: ?????????????????????

Be patient.  It will come soon, but still may be a while before you see it.  In the end it will all be worth it!

My problem is not with waiting but dealing with a company that does not or will not give out information to its customers who have plunked down the money and are waiting on delivery of their product.  Just tell me a scheduled production and delivery date.  Any other company can do that or they would be out of business.  In my case, this is the sixth new Harley from the same dealer in ten years. Three of them have been Screaming Eagles. I am a loyal customer of the Harley Davidson product and should be treated in that manor with accurate up to date information on my order.

Got a VIN # Friday
« Reply #14 on: October 22, 2007, 11:10:13 AM »

After a three week delay, my bike finally shipped out of York on Friday.  Should be in the saddle by Thursday according to dealer. While on a trip to Atlanta, I did see two Screaming Eagle Springers in the 105th color along with two SE Dyna's.  Sure looks a lot better in person than the regular 105 color which looks pink beside the SE.  Although the SE 105th color did not knock me out like my red 07, it sure started to grow on me after a while and I am pleased.  Will try and post some pictures when I pick it up if someone can walk me through the process.

Thanks for listening to my moaning and groaning.
