What do most of you riders use and recommend?   Have heard that some like Mobil 1 V-twin 20-50 for the engine, Mobil 75/90 for the tranny, and 15/40 diesel oil for the primary.   Any comments?

I just purchased Red-Line products for the tranny and primary.  Mobil V-Twin for the crankcase, redline primary oil and redline tranny fluid.  I haven't put them yet cause I am lazy...

Mobil-1 V-Twin 20w50 in the engine and primary, Redline Shockproof Heavy in the trans.  The primary isn't critical, if you want to reduce the number of products on hand the Mobil-1 V-Twin works fine.  If you prefer a separate product, just make sure it's compatible with a wet clutch.

Mobil-1 V-Twin 20 50 in the crank and primary and Mobil 1 75-140 in the Trans is what I run.  Since I made the change from Syn 3 which is what came in my bike I could really tell a difference in the oils, especially in the trans it shifts sooooo much better and the engine seems to run almost 10º cooler...  JMHO

Red-line is marketing fluids specific to V2....trans, primary and motor.  I figured I give it a shot, if it good enough for these anal retentive crazies, its good enough for a lazy dumbass like myself.   :huepfenjump3:

BTW, I am real happy with the lead additive from Red-Line for my Oldster (35 VLD), very concentrated so a little goes a long way and makes for nice smelling exhaust, almost as good as the old Marvels Mystery, for any of you side valve, hand shifting, oil spewing, hard tail riders in here..

What about automatic transmission fluid in the primary?   A friend of mine says he used it and his bike goes into neutural a lot easier.  Will this hurt anything in there?

I use Mobil 1 V-twin in all three, but will switch to Redline in the transmission when I find somebody who carries it.  ATF was basically what the old primary fluid was back when HD said to never use synthetic (i.e. they didn't have one of their own).  It's similar to a low viscosity oil and obviously works with a clutch, so could be used.  No real advantage.

Gekco...I did a search on the Redline site and found a Honda/Toyota auto Indy shop here in town that carries the products.  I'm now using the Redline shockproof and MTL in tranny and primary.  Switched to Amsoil in crankcase, just because the Mobil I got hard for me to find around here.  Both are excellent products.

Recent change of tranny at 20k, with 10K on the Redline shockproof...stuff looked brand new coming out, as did the MTL out of the primary.

Yep, Redline and Amsoil are probably the two best replacements for your bikes fluids, do a search on them here and you'll find a lot of threads about both. I use Redline, love it! Shifts so smooth!
