Harley Davidson and Shell Oil Company
« on: November 09, 2007, 07:13:42 AM »

This is refreshing news! Maybe a step toward getting rid of Citgo products from the USA. :bananarock:

Shell gas runs good in my car. I just don't like gas stations with one hose for all grades. Can't be getting all premium. Maybe not enough to matter but scared of anything not just right on these motors with all their problem's.

The single line gas pumps don't mix fuels as you suspect. The counter or volume meter is in the top where the hose attaches and the fuel is allowed to drop back to the distributer valve in the lower portion of the pump. Some pumps have three lines to the top and the distributer valve is located there. When you make the selection, the pump starts and the distributer valve pulls fuel from the appropriate in ground tank and fills the line up to the top, through the counter and down the hose. There is no mixing. Most states have laws that protect the consumer from this sort of 'cheating'. I wouldn't worry about the gas pump, the guy that fills the in-ground tanks...that's more of a problem and three line pumps can't guard against that either.

Not that it applies to us, since we all use premium anyway, but it is my understanding that mid-grade gas is nothing more than a mixture of regular and premium unleaded, which doesn't happen until the fuels are delivered to their final dispensing point......the gas station.  Anyone know for sure?  If so, sorta makes one leary of the advertised "R" number for midgrade.......well, me anyway.

True Dat!  My neighbor with a diesel pickup filled up at a local station and the tanker driver had mistakenly put gas in the ground tank for diesel.  It pretty much ruined the top half of his engine and did several thousand dollars damage.  Although it was all fixed for him he's a contractor who was without his work truck for a week or two.....

How long before we read somewhere the following statement: "Shell V-Power is the only fuel that will not void the factory warranty on your Harley-Davidson motorcycle." :nixweiss: :huepfenlol2:

Might also see Shell synthetic oil as the new Syn3...that would be a step in the right direction for HD.

Brian, check the next issue of the Enthusiast, wouldn't surprise me to see it there along with the other half truths and BS. ::)

For what it's worth, I've found that my SEEG runs a little better in hot weather on Shell than it does on BP (Amoco), Exxon, Speedway (Marathon), or anything else I can get in this area.  The problem is that there are maybe two or three Shell stations within a 50 mile radius, but we have Speedway and BP on every street corner.  Doesn't make much sense to ride past 20 stations to get to the closest Shell station.
