D&D Fatcats w/quiet baffle vs. Bub 7's 2 into 1
« on: March 03, 2008, 03:54:02 PM »

Ok, I currently am running the Super Trapp SE slipons on my 07 SERK.  They sound too "hammery"  or sharp for me, especially on sustained runs at 75-80 mph down the highway.  Therefore I am looking for a deeper, richer, less obnoxious sound.  Can anyone tell me which of the above (D&D's w/quiet baffle or the new Bub 7's) would probably have that deep rumble - not too loud of an exhaust note?  I want to be fairly certain (between the cost of the pipes and 4hrs of dyno time @ Durango HD I am looking at $1000)!  Already have the SERT.  Does 4 hrs of time (as quoted by the dealer) to dyno tune the bike sound resonable?  Thanks.

fatcat with quiet baffle has no rumble at all at cruise. 4 hrs dyno time is about right. some take a couple days. some diial right in in a couple hours.

Best to go with the quiet baffles in the D&D's . I had the standard performance bafflers in before & they were quite loud at 80mph. I haven't had a chance to try the new quiet ones out at cruising speed yet.

No rumble at all at cruise?  Does that mean that they are just quiet with little or no exhaust note?

i guess we have different opinions of rumble! they have a muffled note. at light cruise/flat road, you can hear the exhaust, but you and passenger can easily have a conversation. or you can hear the radio without cranking the volume.
no rumbling.

now the standard baffle is an irritating giant mosquito all the time!

Thanks for the reply - that sounds good to me - right now the SE slip-ons sound like a jack hammer @ 75-80 mph.

Four hours of dyno time might be a bit much for just changing pipes. You might ask why so many hours, what's being done. Here are some things you want to know ahead of time too.

- Warm up runs, bike should be warmed up on the dyno, get all the fluids warm, then base line until numbers from two runs are about the same.

- What Gear do they test in? TQ and HP will be higher in 5th gear, vs 4th gear.

- What if any error correction are they using, if any. Standard is SAE correction 5.

- The dyno should be equipped with an Autologic 5-gas Exhaust Gas Analyzer (EGA) to measure NOx, %CO, %CO2, HC (PPM), %O2, Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) instruments.

After the dyno, on you dyno sheet hp and tq lines cross at 5250rpm. If they do not, the scaling may be off (though the "max values" in the description should be accurate).

I prefer the quiet baffle over the standard baffle............I've heard them both side by side.

The quiet baffle takes away the raspyness or harshness of the exhaust, makes it a nice deep rumble. I can hear my radio just fine at speed, and my wife and I can still talk fine. If you want to make noise, just twist the wick and it will bark........but while cruising and at idle it's very mellow.

And, the quiet baffle has been tested and shown to make slightly better performance.
