My wife and I are leaving Omaha and heading to the California Desert for the winter.

We plan on putting my 06 FLHTCSE Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic and her 08 FLSTN Softail Deluxe on an enclosed trailer and hauling 'em with my F-150 around Christmas or soon after.

What do I need to know to make sure they are properly secured?

Is one rental company (U-haul, Budget, or Penske) better than another?

I don't believe Penske or Budget rent trailers, just trucks. U-Haul rents motorcycle trailers, go to:  http://www.uhaul.com/guide/index.aspx?equipment=towing-motorcycle .  This appears to be only a one motorcycle trailer though.     If you get an enclosed one from U-Haul, you'd have to fabricate some sort of a ramp, as U-Haul trailers do not have the drop down rear door.  I'd recommend that you look in your local yellow pages for trailer rental places that specifically rent motorcycle trailers.  They're out there.    Or better yet, buy your own two-bike trailer, then you'll always have one in case you need to trailer the bike(s) anywhere, such as the dealer should they have a hard break down.
