Mag Chloride
« on: December 20, 2007, 01:01:10 PM »

I have a riding buddy who had his bike ruined by riding on a nice winter day here in Custer.  This was last year.  The chemicals they put on the road ate through into the aluminum on his front fork and through the chrome on the wind deflectors on his Road King.  I was telling another friend about this yesterday, and he said the chemicals ruined the chrome plated wheels on his 4X4.

I'm half afraid to take my bike out in the winter on one of those rare warm days now.

Has anyone else had the same experience? :nervous:

I have heard of it.  Rode Tuesday after a weekend snow and the roads salted/chemicaled.  Bike was perfectly clean when I left and was covered in a white residue from the roads.  Just washed and dryed bike when done.  You either have to wash the bike after you ride or wait for it to rain and clean the roads off.

When the chemicals go down my bike doesn't hit the road until the rain washes the chemicals away. As Bob mentioned if you do get caught out in immediately wash your bike. My only problem w/this is normally it is to cold for me to give it the kind of detail/soaking that I would like to to get all the places where those chemicals are hiding. :nervous:
