Zumo 550 Good, but what's new and better????
« on: December 22, 2007, 07:53:14 PM »

Thanks guys for the last thread and all the help with the GPS thing.

Now that I'm looking into buying one of these gizmo's, I find that the Zumo 550 has been out for some time.  Is the Street Pilot 2820 unit better, it costs more, but that doesn't always mean much in technology.

I'd really like to get in on the frontend of the technology so not that the 550 isn't good, it appears to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I have to ask anyway.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone.

Here is a comparasion of the Zumo vs 2820 there are a few differences. The 2820 has been out longer then the Zumo (so I guess you could say the Zumo is the latest in technology from Garmin), and I haven't heard of anything new coming from Garmin to replace it (that doesn't mean it isn't in the works).

Dan,

I've been talking to Garmin support for about a year, trying to find out if they know what's next. Nothing from them. They say they don't know about it until it ships.

I'm waiting for the ultimate motorcycle GPS. It's a small package like the Zumo, but has the XM WX Weather like the marine GPSMap units. If they will put color doppler radar in the Zumo, I'll have me one of them.

They are due for a new offering, but their releases really don't have any regularity to them. It will be here when it gets here. I still check the site at least once a week.

Oh, I'm sure it'll be obsolete in a year or two, but for now......it's way more fun than a barrel of munkies.  I'm just worried that I'm going to run off the road playing w/ it.  :o Gotta stop that!  :nervous: har!  spyder

I've been poked in the ribs a few times by my wife for that same reason...followed by "watch the road"!

Thanks to all on the comments.

Since Steve has posted a more specific request for likes and dislikes, new technology etc, I'll let his take over and I'll just review that thread as it grows.

Thanks again and have a very happy holidays.
