Tour Pak Motion
« on: January 18, 2008, 01:39:46 PM »

I have an 08 FLHTCUSE3; folks that ride behind me tell me that I have alot of up and down tour pak motion and vibration. I've checked all connections and no missing bolts. Any idea what this could be?

Are you able to rock the back end up and down?  If you are, it should be easy to see where it's pivoting that shouldn't.

Have you installed the quick connect kit to remove your TP?  If so, the bushings where it connects can get worn and allow some slack.

Not Detachable.....got to be something loose somewhere.

If you can't find anything loose, you might try letting someone else ride it and you follow to see if you can figure it out that way. :nixweiss:

I have the same bike and mine is as solid as it can be.

We don't have the same bike as you, but on my husband's 04 bike and many other that year and earlier, the mounting bracket itself got a crack in it.  Can you see if there is a problem with the mounting bracket.  That will make it really shake.  My husband's shook so bad it loosened the light bar on top of the tour pak and it came right off.  Thank goodness I was right behind him and got him to stop almost immediately before we lost it all together.

Could they be seeing the passenger backrest vibrating vs. the entire tour pak?  Maybe the isolator bushings holding the backrest are loose?

"Just say no to CracK"... I agree, there may be a crack somewhere in the supports, you'll have to hunt for it though.

Had similar problems with my other HDs... see movement or hear vibration, but can locate the source.

Last time it happened the bracket from my muffler snapped, but the muffler had been moving for weeks before, and I couldn't find it!

Mine does the same thing. My thought is that the change to ABS instead of fiberglass is what is to blame.

cowboy7123 is right.  I'm so sorry, did not even think of the obvious.

It is under warranty and should not be doing that.

You rock my tour pack and the whole bike moves with no movement from the tour pack.  Have the dealer resolve it for you - especially for what we paid for our bikes!

My grandfather always said that if something is loose and rattling it will eventually fall off.  If you go back and pick it up you can usually figure out what it was...

REMOVE the tour pack inner liner and check your Three bolts that hold the tour pack on, you may find they are loose or missing  :o
