2000 power increace
« on: December 12, 2007, 08:38:48 AM »

I have a buddy that wants my help. He has a 2000 road king trike and wants more power. He is on a limited budget so I do want to keep the cost in order. My original thought was to go with Se htcc stuff but the se book said there was a fitment issue with the intake manifold. In talking with the motor guru at my dealership, he stated the the MM EFI throttle body was the limiting factor on a performance head installation and proposed switching to carb ( buddy doesn't want to) or switching to Delphi ( cost inhibitive) So this brings me to what fuel injection controller should i use with the MM. I have installed a Terry Terminal velocity on another bike and the rider says it increased power and he has had no issues. My current plan is to bore his jugs to 95" with high compression SE flat tops, install SE 253 ( leftovers from my 2005 SEEG) which will work with stock heads and pushrods(according to the book)  and the terry Terminal velocity. What leads toward this is I don't have access to a dyno for the trike and the closed loop should be self tuning on this mild build. The bike already has free flow intake and exhaust. Any input from the site would be great thanks.

Try George's Garage. Good stuff and cheaper than Jims.

if you have a mm efi that actually works, the 253 cams are on the wrong end of the power spectrum for a trike.

try this--------bore to 95, have heads worked for a woods tw6 or a andrews tw26, install cv carb, ignition controller, enjoy! if you are adamant about staying with the marelli--------power commander is as good as any and more maps are available. keep in mind, how you gonna put a trike on a dyno?????????

Stay away from the 253 cams for this build! The biggest bang for the buck would be to do just a cam swap and remap with a PC III. The woods W6 is a bolt in cam and will work well. Bumping it up to 95 is an ption as well that could be done i sthe cam swap is not enough.

We are talking budget here correct??

Ok bore the cylinders use the cast flat top pistons and a chain drive cam. Now for a small increase that would not upset the MM so much and not need other tuner items I would do mild head work. Ie street port clean up. Cc the chambers and use a mild bolt in cam. Set compression to 9.6 and use a HQ, Woods, Andrews cam and you will have more gidda up and go and not break the bank. The MM should still be able to hand le those mods and your tuner that you have should be able to work with those mods.

So - what did you go with for your increase in power?
