What about the detach tour apk rack?  The one that holds the tour pak for serk?  Use just the rack.

I would like to know if anyone actually did what miker suggested. Use the Detachable Docking Hardware Kit
53988-07 Fits ’07-later FLHRSE3/4 models

And then just the 53276-04 (rack)?

Any pictures of this rack minus the TP?

Take a look at this kit - I have this set up on my bike, but with the higher sissy bar. I use a large Saddlemen bag and the set up works pretty well.

You are right freestate. I ordered a detachable rack for my SERK too and it was definitely not wide enough to fit the mountings. I have since decided not to have the detachable rack because the mounting hardware touches on the saddlebags when you open them and will mark the leather. I am now going with the integral luggage rack/sissy bar option. When riding solo I will revert to the small sissy bar and stock seat.

The detachable backrest from my 2004 RKC fits just fine.  The saddlebag lids do contact the backrest on the SERK exactly the same  as the RKC did, no difference.  The stealth luggage rack will not fit at least because the chrome rail is bent up to avoid the taillight.

Ditto. Loaded my T-Bag on it to Bikeweek and back this week. Worked like a charm.

Kojac2,

So the picture of your bike has

http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Genuine_Motor_Accessories/Kits_Touring_FLHR_FLHT_FLTR.jsp?locale=en_GB

and the original short backrest you don't use with this setup?

This rack looks nicer then

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441842151&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309233039&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309233039&bmUID=1204953290835&bmLocale=en_US

You also do not need the Detachable Docking Hardware Kit 53988-07 Fits ’07-later FLHRSE3/4 models; correct?

Thanks

Yep - my bike has the first set up, but with the higher sissy bar(not in the picture) so that it clears the Touring seat I have on the bike.

The OEM backrest is way too short to clear the seat.

The second rack you show has side rails on it - I didn't go for that as I figured the rails would just dig into the bottom of my Saddlemen bag.

I didn't use the detachable kit. My rack just fits permanently onto the higher sissy bar and I just take the whole thing off and on as I need to.

I tried to install the luggage rack on the short one, but its about 1/2 too short in the vertical to attach the kuggage rack, believe me I tried.  No issue with seat clearance, just mounting the rack.

Your FLHRSE3/4 comes with the dock installed. You do need a high sissy bar upright to clear the touring seat and to fit the rack to. I took the short backrest off to install the tallboy seat so I was already set for the detachable luggage rack.

I only install  the standard height backrest with luggage rack when installing the SAC bags for overnighters.
