Bike won't idle
« on: May 08, 2013, 08:54:07 AM »

2011 CO Convertible. Stock except for Rush slip-ons. Last nite the bike started and was at fast idle for a bit longer than ran normal.

After 30 Min's. of riding as I stopped the engine stalled. I restarted but had to keep on the throttle to keep it running. I spoke to

the dealer, he mentioned this is common and there is a download to correct this. Has anyone experienced this symptom and how was it

fixed? TIA   Frank

Frank, try the old on-off four times with the ignition first.

Make sure to let the ECM cycle four complete times and it resets the idle back to default.

Those babies have a habit of remembering where the throttle setting is when shut down, and if the throttle control is moved it can affect the idle rpm.

Seen it happen to a couple now and was unintentional by the rider.

Ozrider is spot on. When you do this keep your hand off the throttle so the computer can see where the true position is for idle. This could save you from a trip to the dealer.

One thing I have learned to do to keep the bike from "remembering" the idle position is to remove my hand from the grip to press the run/stop switch when I shutdown the engine.  That keeps the throttle closed on these TBW bikes so it doesn't "learn" the part open position of the throttle.

I was just about to post about the same problem, a few times the bike has nearly stalled coasting into a stop in first with the clutch pulled in and no throttle. Today the bike cut out at the bottom of my driveway when I stopped to press the garage clicker (not connected to the bike). It started up again just fine. Twice today I thought it was going to stall and I had to blip the throttle to stop it.

Thanks All, I tried the 4 times on/off with no luck. The dealer reloaded the factory download and the problem is solved.
