Fat Cat 2into1 question
« on: February 04, 2008, 11:34:59 PM »

Hey guys, I have been reading your take on the fat cat exhaust. I think most of you are running newer CVO"s I have a 04 SE built to a 107 with performance revolution kit, and Head quarters heads, cams and such. I am running a thunder header at the moment with a PC3 the bike dyno's around 115 hp, and 130 Tq. But as most thunder headers I have a dip in the low end from 2000 to around 3000. I was wondering if with your experience with the fat cats would one help on my bike to help out the low end Tq? I understand the quiet baffle is working better for low end. Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Also I wonder if the money spent would be worth the difference if there is a difference. Thanks guys. Geezer

I definitly think that the D&D is a much better pipe, will it give you more low-end, probably alittle, would it be worth the $$$$ to switch...?? Since you already have a 2-1, I don't know if the low-end gain would be that much more to make it worth switching!! :nixweiss:
I know all the guys that I have talked to seem to like the D&D the most of all the 2-1's!! I definitly think it looks better and is a better pipe!! :2vrolijk_21:

If it was me, I definitly would just for all the other reasons!! If I bought a used bike and it came with any other 2-1 on it, I would surely change it to the D&D w/performance quiet baffle!!

The tuner that I've used up here in Canada has always claimed that there is no better pipe than the Thunderheader if you have carb. With the Fuel injection he says D&D works much better at the lower RPMS whereas the Thunderheader gives top end power. I have an 07 110 with headquarters heads and HQ 575 cams For me this total package works great c/w the D&D's. I just switched from the performance baffle to the standard baffle & haven't even started after the install. We'll see.

Geezer -X,

The D&D also has a dip in it, and depending on the tuner and the shape of the map when finally printed out you may or may not see it, but D&D if you call them usually acknowlege this.   There are quite a few topics listed on the harley tech talk site specifically about this with the D&D.

If your after performance the D&D is good on the larger engines over 95".  The D&D with performance baffle in is (loud), D&D Borzilla (louder).   One other pipe you might want to consider although the chroming is not as good as D&D so to speak, but the pipe works really well is the Bassani 2 into 1 Road Rage.   On this pipe my recommendation is to send the header out and have it jet hot coated.

IMO,I don't think you will see any difference between the T-header and the Fat-Cat,on a motor under 113",except for quality.
It's possible to tune out the dips that both pipes have.
Another mod that works on the T-header,is to bend 3 of the 4 sections that make the diamond shape in the collector,OUTWARD.It may cost 1 or 2 hp up top,but usually takes most of the dip away, and improves low end torque.
John
Road Rage dresser primary pipes are jet hot coated. They offer chrome heat sheilds as an option.

I've been looking around the site and can't find it so I'm thinking I imagined a Group Buy on D&D Fatcat 2 into 1.  I found the thread on same with Ghost Pipe and am not interested. I thought we had a group buy going on the 2 into 1 at $598 or something like that. Me and Beags were looking at a V&H 2 into 1 at the Hideout (yeah Joe it's open this winter)  on a RK and it looked sweet, but you guys all say go with the D&D over the V&H so I'm looking.

Brian, I remember the group buy that JR got started that did include the ghost pipe.  Do not remember any other though.

That was a couple years ago.  When I bought mine last spring AMS was not discounting like they had been.  Said D&D had received complaints from other distributors because of their prices.  Might re-visit the issue and see where it stands now.

I bought a D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1 with Ghost Pipe from Steve @ http://www.automotivemachine.com/harley.htm   out of Fort Worth Texas, I think the 2 into one with the quiet baffle installed was $619.00 delivered to me in Yuma AZ.  I just had the pipe installed and some dyno runs done. I don't have a scanner right now to scan the DynoJet graphs but I'll text them down..
On a bone stock
2008  110 FLHTUSE3  in 4th gear @ 100% throttle  98.28 Max HP  and  115.19 Max Torque.

5th Gear @ 80% throttle  96.69 Max HP  and  117.41 Max Torque

I'm very happy with those numbers and very happy with the sound, I would not want any louder than the quiet baffle!

I'll post pics of the install and the dyno graphs tomorrow, you can see with the fly by wire you always get a dip on the graph at 2000 to 2100 rpm.

The quality of these D&D's are outstanding, very happy! ;D

I spoke to Steve at AMS yesterday about doing a group buy & he didnt seem very intersted in doing one. Says rite now they are offering free shipping. Says thats a $40.00 value. The fatcat 2-1 pipe with quiet baffle was $649.00 & with performance baffle was $599.00.

Take a look here, this is a 95", but could give you an idea. They have a lot of dyno sheets you can look thru.

Just heads up on the ghost pipe from Steve at AMS. Make sure you ask for the three tab mount. They sent me the two and had to call D&D to get the correct one. Its been several months so maybe they got it straight?

The thunder header is a great pipe.  Just look in the back end and you will see 4 tabs.  Bend the tabs toward  the outside of the pipe a little at a time until you get the dip in the low end from 2000 to around 3000 to your liking.  It does not take much and it is a cheap fix and reverable.  Regards,

the dip i saw was cam. says 251.now my eyes are bad and the graphs didnt show clearly on my monitor, so i could be wrong.  the dip from fatcat is not really a dip, but a flat spot (sometimes very slight dip)usually aroud 3000 or 3500 rpm.
