SEEG Paint Durability
« on: May 16, 2005, 08:37:35 PM »

Was looking at my friends 04 SEEG (5,000 miles) black/cobalt today and noticed several chips on his front fender and both lowers.  I've had a few Harleys prior and have been extremely happy with the quality of the paint.  Does it seem that the durablility of the CVO's are not as durable as a standard color?  There is a company called X-Pel that produces a clear bra, which covers all the problem areas of the SEEG.  Just wondering before I take delivery of my scoot this week.

NROTIC........I think the paint on my '04 SEEG is as good as the paint on my '94 Nostalgia.  I've got a couple of small rock chips on both...but in 95K on one and 25K on the other, that's understandable.  Each one pisses  you off, but what you gonna do if a car or other bike kicks up a rock.  The inter-state hwys are the worse....maybe it's the speed too????  Let me know more about this clear coating, sounds interesting.   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]    spyder

I think the paint is somewhat less durable.  It seems "softer" than the paint on my '02 EG Classic.  Having said that, it is still quite dazzling, even with the few chips that I've acquired in 8,600 miles.  I think covering it up with even a clear bra would take a fair amount of the "dazzle" away. My front fairing and the right lower each have rock chips now.  Two on the fairing on one on the lower.  Hit them all with the touch up paint and they're not really noticed unless you know they're there.  Given their postiion it's gonna happen though.

Since the lowers area  solid color (on the 05s) getting a paint match on them won't be as tough should a repaint ever become necessary.  The fairing, however, is a tougher repaint.  Sometime in the next few months while the color should still be readily available I'm just going to order one and throw it up over the garage as a spare.  At one of the 20% off places they were something like $600.00 and that'll be less then trying to get the whole thing repainted some day.

During my ride this past weekend I aquired a chip in the gold strip on the fairing [smiley=furious.gif] Anyone know of a touch up paint code for the Gold?

twolane - i had a spare full front fairing on a previous bike and still hanging in the corner of the garage - took it to the 100th yr kick off/19th tour here at Atlanta Speedway party and had everyone that came around sign it with a permenant marker and then i just bought a can of clear coat and coated it - it has the 100th yr decal underneath the clear also.

That's a cool piece.  Memorabilia that actually has some memory tied to it.  Like that a lot  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

HD-dude, Twolane,

Isn't the gold "gold leaf"? Or is that just on the tank? Don't know how you'd touch that up, maybe try an art supply store, or trophy shop.....

I think the Harley Davidson on the tank is, but not the stripes. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Honestly I don't have a clue.  And I'm in KC while the bike is down in Joplin right now.  When the bike is front of the pin-striper in Topeka in a few weeks I'll probably just ask him to stir up a match to hide the dink.
