Broken Drive Belts
« on: March 22, 2008, 11:48:07 PM »

Holy Crap, Started out on a ride on this beautiful day, got a few miles away from home and on onto freeway on ramp and cranked the throttle on my 08 UC with a mere 900 miles. Hit third gear and there goes the rev limiter. Broken drive belt. Dealer was kind enough to come rescue me with their shop trailer. The service guy that picked me us told me they have replaced half dozen drive belts on 2008 bikes in last few month. Anyone else having or hearing about this??? By the way this is a warranty fix. Belt snaped straight as if someone but it clean with knife.

I have only broken one belt ever - and that was caused by a rock embeded into the sprocket...

Interesting he singled out '08s. They all have those rubber donut sprockets too. Hmmmm, makes  me wonder! :nixweiss:

Makes you wonder about a bad production run somehow.  I've had two break over the years/miles.  But like Scott never had one break that wasn't debris/damage related.

Oh Man, sounds like a common thing for the 08s.
Hope this doesn't happen to too many more people as now Safety is a concern.
HELLO MoCo, what is going on up there?!?!?!?

Like it wasn't with trhe cranks grenading the motor while driving on the highway?  At least your back wheel keeps turning.

The service manager called me today said he thinks a bold got hung up in with the pulley which caused belt to snap. He pointed out the bolt holding my rear header pipe near starter is missing, and thinks that's the culprit. In any case, they are replacing under warranty.

More likely a bad production run Howie.  I've got the IDS on my Jester and the belt is fine.

I was in the shop waiting for my new fairing the other day (paint issues) and I heard them talking about another one. Guy just took off with his new bike and didn't make it far and the belt broke.... makes ya wonder?  8)
