Speedometer "r" question
« on: July 07, 2009, 01:29:05 AM »

How accurate is the range function on the speedo? Is it good enough to set your watch by or is it another typical Harley gas gauge?

The two I've run to below "empty" - that is, I've done 10 miles + when the r changes to "LO" seem to err on the side of caution by a little.

I recently ran my Springer down to an R of 30 or so and it took a little less than 4 gallons to filler her up. I haven't gone any lower than that but I was surprised that I still had two gallons left.  I think they err on the good side but I start to get a bit ansy when it gets that low.  Some day I'm going to run it really really down so I can get a good idea of what I can get away with if I have to.

I use the range function all the time on my 09 SEUC. I just did a 1500 mile trip and ran it down to about 40 miles a number of times and every time there was about a gallon left.

On my 09 SERG, I have filled it twice with the "R" sitting at 35.  One time it took 5.2 gallons and the other time it took 5.1 gallons.  Since I am averaging between 38-40 mpg, I would say that is pretty accurate.

YMMV (...and that is literally true for this post!)   :P

On the '09 SEUC, when "r" goes to low, I have easily some 30 miles left.

Sounds about the same as mine, Louis.

DITTO, I'm known for running low on gas....I had "LO" come on at 15 miles left, I rode that 15 miles and had 15 more to go. I can figure that when the "LO" comes on I have about 1 gallon left..
