Democratics and Republics, MMMMMMM!!!!!
« on: April 09, 2008, 01:06:48 PM »

If you have not seen this before, please take the time and read the captions. It is interesting to read what people have to say and history has recorded. Interesting to see what society hears and accepts without question.

For those of us who spent time in the military, believe in our military and support the men and women of our military, read on............ ~
John Glenn (DEMOCRAT) said this -----
It  should make you think a little:

There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the
month of January. That's just one American city,
about as deadly as the entire war-torn coun try of Iraq.

When some claim that President Bush shouldn't
have started this war, state the following:

FDR (DEMOCRAT) led us into World War II.

Germany never attacked us ; Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 112,500 per year.

Truman (DEMOCRAT) finished that war and started one in Korea
North Korea never attacked us
    From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 18,334 per year.

John F. Kennedy (DEMOCRAT) started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
Vietnam never attacked us.

Johnson (DEMOCRAT) turned Vietnam into a quagmire.
From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 5,800 per year.

Clinton (DEMOCRAT) went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us .
He was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three
times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on
multiple occasions.

In the years since terrorists attacked us , President Bush
has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled
al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya , Iran , and, North Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who
slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.  And the Democrats are complaining
about how long the war is taking.

But Wait, There's

It took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno (DEMOCRAT)
to take the Branch Davidian compound.
That was a 51-day operation..

We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons
in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton (DEMOCRAT) to find
the Rose Law Firm billing records.

It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the
Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard
than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his
Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick.

It took less time to take Iraq than it took
to count the votes in Florida!!!

Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a GREAT JOB !
The Military morale is high!

The biased media hopes we are too ignorant
to realize the facts

But Wait

There's more!

JOHN GLENN (on the Senate floor - January 26, 2004)

Some people still don't understand why military personnel
do what they do for a living. This exchange between
Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum
is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive
impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one
man's explanation of why men and women in the armed
services do what they do for a living.

This IS a typical, though sad, example of what
some who have never served think of the military.

Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn):
'How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?'

Senator Glenn (D-Ohio):
'I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps.
I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions.
My plane was hit by anti-aircraft fire on 12 different
occasions. I was in the space program. It wasn't my
checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was
not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the
daily cash receipts to the bank.'

'I ask you to go with me .. . as I went the other day...
to a veteran's hospital and look those men ...
with their mangled bodies . in the eye, and tell THEM
they didn't hold a job!

You go with me to the Space Program at NASA
and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans
of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...
and you look those kids in the eye and tell them
that their DAD'S didn't hold a job.

You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in
Arlington National Cemetery , where I have more friends
buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch
those waving flags.
You stand there, and you think about this nation,
and you have the gall to tell ME that those people didn't have a job?
&n bsp;
What about Metzenbaum?'

For those who don't remember
During W.W.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney
representing the Communist Party in the USA .

Now he's a Senator!

If you can read this, thank a teacher.
If you a re reading it in English thank a Veteran.

It might not be a bad idea to keep this circulating. I AM!!!

Izzy, be careful with things like this.

History is shaded with more grays than simple starting and ending dates.  If they were still alive you'd have ask John Foster Dulles and Eisenhower about who was serving when the US commitment to Vietnam actually began; for but one example.

Shades of gray being what they are, however, no one can be expected to give them any credence when the baseline facts are so obviously wrong.  If the salesman at the door looks ill you just don't open the door.  If things are obviously wrong you don't pay attention to the message behind them.  Glenn retired from the Senate in 1997.  Was part of the Geezer in Space program in 1998.  He and Metzenbaum never had that exchange on the Senate floor in 2004.

A little surprisingly for internet gossip that exchange did take place though.  But it was 1973 or 74 when they were running against each other for an Ohio Senate seat.  They had a nasty campaign against each other in 1970.  Didn't get along at all.  Metzenbaum won the nomination but lost the general election to Bob Taft.

Before the 74 elections Glenn got appointed to the Senate by the Ohio governnor.  So in '74 Glenn and Metzenbaum squared off again.  That election was even nastier than the 70 soap opera.  The context makes a difference.  People will have less reason to trust or believe the nuance and message when even the basic facts are screwed up.

I just wanted to post this information for all to read. I find it very interesting. The information about Clinton is on point. He did have the opportunity to take Obama out several times. Many questions were asked why so much outside contracting is taking place overseas. Clinton, down sizes logistics so much we are unable to support such movements necessary today.  I am a soldier, I am proud, and regardless what is said, it is a job I hold deep to my heart.
If people didn't like the way Bush was running why second term.
I don't mean to be a butt head, just had moment and to vent. Well take care out there. Beer cup is empty gotta go.

Basically, if people don't like use the voice and vote. That is right preserved by soldiers and society.

Not all of the above is attributable to John Glenn.

It was morphed on the internet.  Check the details here, although Snopes has it as true there is a good portion that is not John Glenn.

Please don't misunderstand the intent Shannon.  Didn't mean the remarks pejoratively at all.  In fact the overall intent of the points trying to be made I'd be generally in agreement with.  That's the problem though.  No one will listen to good ideas if they're in a flawed wrapper.  I'd much rather someone tell me the flaws so I can correct them rather than let me go on and be mistaken before a less friendly audience.

You do the same thing.  If there's a vet that needs assistance somewhere from some agency and he's got two stories, one accurate and one that just sounds good, which do you want to tell up the food chain to make sure any assistance gained or minds changed don't bite him in the ass later?

That's true Rog.  The various iterations of the several squabbles between Metzenbaum and Glenn over the years have taken on a life of their own.  Not helped by the fact that Glenn does have a bit of a temper and has been willing to use it.  Much of the spat between them in their first and second elections is surprisingly accurate though.  Personally I always thought Metzenbaum was a little bitchy anyway.  So he deserved getting slapped around a bit when someone had the balls to do it.

no no, don't take that wrong Don...  I truly and deeply admire the knowledge that you have, and the fact that you share so willingly makes me admire the capbility to pass it on as graciously as you do...  Enough so that I follow your posts around every once in a while just to see what I can learn.

HOWEVER!

It was just a left-handed thank you...  sorry if anyone took it wrong.

I stand corrected, I meant to say Osama. No skeletons here to read about later. Many wonderful points everyone has brought to the table. Interesting facts as well. The World Wide Web is a virtual world that dissimenates information or allows people to communicate, hince, here. Well, everyone take care and hope to see you on the road.

Just remember no matter what happens if you love you're freedom thank a vet! If you don't support the war, support the troops remember they are not clones they come from our society, you're sons and daughters.
