Help me and my burned out ACR's
« on: May 09, 2008, 06:15:20 PM »

I just recieved my  07 FLHRSE3 from the bike shop. The problem was burned out ACR's. There is possible blame being pointed to the power commander. Has anyone heard of a power commander burning out the stock ACR's on the 07  110's ? they gave me the bike back with the power commander disconnected and said that I am on my own.

I would seriously doubt that caused it. Those ACR's are junk and designed terribly. The PC was an excuse to void any responsibility. That dealer sucks. I hope he didn't document it to HD so you can try another dealer. I'd stay as far away from that dealer as possible! FTF & FTW!!! AND FTD too! ;)

That sucks for sure.  Like Hoist said doubt the PC would have caused that.  Did they repair the ACRs?

COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS!  I, like many, had the wiring for an ACR melt and stick to a cylinder head.  I use a Power Commander on my SEUC very successfully to correct the equally ridiculous lean condition that the MOCO delivers these bikes with.  I would run far away from that dealer...   :shout: :beatdeadhorse: :furious3: :smilie_daumenneg:

Yes the dealer replaced the ACR's. However they will not plug the powercommander back in and take responsibiltity for the outcome. Ready for this, This bike had the hydraulic clutch line fall off at the first intersection I came to at Bike week last year, Almost lost my life over that one. Then a chunk of powdercoat fell off the frame the size of a quarter, then when I took it in to have the frame fixed there was a case leak which turned out to be the lack of sealant from the factory. Needless to say the engine was torn down, now the ACR's were smoked. Wanna buy a CVO? I hate to look at a Honda. I hope this was some sort of a cruel joke from an Irate factory worker before the strike. I get to flip a coin over the powercommander. If anyone knows of a better map, I am using 812-025,  07 touring 110, rineharts, high flow a/c and oxy's removed.

Contact the Power Commander folks and talk to them about your dealer's allegation.  I believe you will find that there is absolutely nothing in the PC that affects the ACR's one way or the other.  1-800-992-4993

I know when you install the Daytona Twin Tec you have to disarm the ACR at the ECM connector then install a separate relay to control the ACR. Do you have to do this with the Power Commandor? Maybe they are concerned with that, It shouldn't matter anyway.

The dealers and MoCo are going to take any excuse they can with the CVO's to get out of the liability problems those things create. And then they are going to blame your aftermarket stuff on their problems. Kind of against their willingness to install big bore kits and all sorts of stuff on past bikes. They piss me off... good luck

Do you think your SERK can make it to Long Lake in a few weeks?  We can all talk about it there......

No way the PC caused the ACR's to fail.  What was the failure that happened?  If it was melted wires the PC may have kept it from happening sooner.

It is suspicious that BOTH burned out.  I'm kinda of an electrical guru so burned out is fuzzy to me. The ACRs do sit in a very hot head by design.  To burn out the solenoid, it may have to be in an activated state for a very long time which would mean that you had the compression being lost while running.  The PC could do this if defective and it would affect both, but you would have known if it was stuck on.  A surge or spike might burn out the solenoid but the PC would be the source (pass thru) and it should be fried too.
In hindsight, you should have removed the PC before bringing it in for service.  Anything the dealer can use for an excuse is a liability.
Most likely the 400-600 head temp fried the ACRs and I would ask to see them.  Physical contact of the harness to the head/cylinder is most likely the culprit and the dealer may be to blame if they had worked in that area in the past and mis placed the wires.

Well I kind of had the reverse happen. 1st I had my Thundermax burn up and yes it fried the ECM fuse also. That was blamed on a grounded out oxy sensor then about 200 miles later after sensors and Thundermax replaced under dealer warranty I started burning up ECM fuses again. This time they did find intermittent shorts in ACRs and have been replaced with no problems so far. Hopefully this fixes it. Back in January when I was haveing rear head gasket replaced (LEAK) I asked them to check ACRs as sometimes when you snapped the throttle they would open up and about kill the engine. I thought they were controlled through the ECM/ tuner and only when starting. This does make since that it may be ACRs as fuses were blowing while starting.

The power commander would have exactly NOTHING to do with that issue. You would be better served to use a Race Tuner or Direct Link on an 07 or 08 though. The closed loop (14.7) AFV cannot be dealt with with a power commander. There is a plug in and go product that changes the AFV from 14.7 to about 14.1/14.2. It is for folks who want to make a change even with a stock motor and peripherals...
