Please.....PLEASE....tell me that you left the 5 speed in the bike and are going to use the money saved on fuel and hotel

rooms to visit your friends here :2vrolijk_21:

I'll tell you that if that is what you want to hear, but Buddy, we've already had this discussion, and I'm not going to do a Twolane.

I have a Baker OD6 with 3.37 gearing, and I'm lovin' it.

Need some advice from the gearheads out there.  I am running the stock 5 speed with my 120 motor.  This engine produces so much torque early on that first gear is practically useless and since I ride fast for long periods, dropping a few hundred rpm in fifth gear would be nice.  Therefore, would like to get more out of first gear and drop a few hundred going to sixth.  However, I'm almost certain a sprocket change may be needed as well.

I rented a Road Glide with a stock 96 and I was impressed with the way it pulled and I did use the sixth gear more than I thought I would which is why I have been mulling this over.  Just don't know if it is worth the $2K to make it happen.  Recommendations?

Unless you do the work yourself the cost is north of 2k.   Figuring on 15 to 20 percent off on parts Tranny is 2100, then you have to buy the hydrolic cover another 250.00 then you have 7 - 10 hours depending on the dealer plus bearings etc that you should replace.   overall it is about 2500 to 3k deal with labor, tax and parts.

Pete i would recommend it for the type of riding you and I do.   I have a hard timing riding my Cherry with the 5 speed, I have a 6 speed in the roadking and wouldn't go back to a 5 speed in there.  If i do any work to the Cherry it will also include a HD SE 6 Speed.

Is this for an SE 6 Speed Harry?

Price runs about the same for a Baker OD6 even though you don't have to replace the hydraulic clutch cover, and there is no case modification required.  I Baker transmission cannot fit in a case, which has previously been modified for an SE 6 Speed.  Due to increased side door thickness, depending on exhaust, the transmission mounted exhaust bracket has to be modified.  Best time to do a Baker OD6 is in conjunction with other work.  I paid $2100 for mine, since it was installed during the engine rebuild..........but need to tack on another near $500 in parts for conversion to 3.37 primary gearing.  Very pleased with how it turned out, and glad I did it during the engine rebuild.  Since primary work was done, I'd have been out better than $3500 for my Baker if I had done it and the primary work by themselves.

Henry,

Yes this was for a SE 6 Speed, the difference is the baker OD6 comes in 2 flavors, but if memory serves me right it runs 2395 for the gear set, plus you used to need the oil filler piece don't know if this is still the case or not.   They also have the R2 version of the OD 6 with taller first and 2nd and an .080 6th.   For that i needed to also buy a S&S speedo correction device.

I've seen that oil spout extension.  In the OD6 builder's kits, they've started including a different oil spout like the one in the attached picture.  Vent line routes under the side door, and the drip stick screws in.......freeing me from worrying about it popping out every time I snatch the throttle.  There's a Baker speedo correction device on mine.  Not sure if it came with the builder's kit, or was added do to the change in primary gearing.......probably the later.

I didn't know they included it with both, since I don't have a DD6.  Sure do like it though.  Looks so much better than the stock one and the chrome stock replacement, and solves the popping dipstick challenge.

So the oil fill is now the same size as the trans fill? Do you have to carry a funnel now on trips?

I think it is just a little smaller than the trans fill, Duane.  Always carry a funnel anyway, so no biggie.
