Sympathy cards
« on: April 14, 2008, 02:30:23 PM »

Hi everyone. Bit of an unusual request, and I wonder if anyone can help?

My cousin's wife in Pa. passed away last night.  We were close friends with them, and all their kids.  The funeral is to be on Thursday coming, and we'd like to send flowers - but I understand from my research on the net that in the US, they are always sent to the funeral home, not the house, and we have no idea what funeral home, or where.  I can't contact my cousin as I haven't got his phone number (yeah, I know - always mean to get it from him when he rang, never got round to it.  :( ) and I think it's unlisted.

The next best thing is to mail a sympathy card, but of course, it would not get there for over a week.... so I got to wondering, does anyone know of a website where they organise local delivery of cards like this?   Kind of like you do for flowers, but for cards.  I had a look on Google, but no luck.  Any ideas?

Jim,
Do you know what city in Pa.? Most local newspapers are online these days and have obituary sections. You might be able to find out the funeral home address from there.

Thanks do00d - this is his location:

Old York Road
Wellsville
PA 17365

But it's pretty rural, and I have no idea what the local paper might be.  Also, might be findable yet - isn't it a bit quick?

I'll send one!  Gimme the best address you've got, and I'll have it out in just a few hours.

Oh yea,  Names and what you'd like to say would be helpful too!

The nearest town of size is York, PA.  It could also be in the Carlisle, PA paper.  Here is the link for the York Paper.  There is an online Obit section.

The Carlisle paper is (Also has Obit's online):

If you at least know the correct spelling and have an idea where they live, and the number is listed try this

http://www.corp.att.com/directory/

If you don't know the city, just type in the last name, first initial and use PA for the search

Thanks Duane.  Tried all that yesterday, no luck - I remember Bill telling me his number was unlisted.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks Mrs We.  It's been expected for a while, but it doesn't make it any less sad when it happens.

nah,  you've got it all backwards...    Jim helped me out today.  I'm the one that got to do somebody a good turn.  You don't get that chance as often as you'd like.     :2vrolijk_21:
