My Latest Problem: Compensater Bolt
« on: May 16, 2008, 11:25:18 AM »

While on the return trip from York, my oil pressure gauge dropped. We were about eight miles from the closest dealership which was Cole HD in WV. They said that I was down about 2 quarts of oil. Added the oil and replaced my rear tire (thanks Tbone). When I got home I went to my dealer to have the front tire replaced and told them about the oil disappearing. When they opened the primary case there it was! The oil had seeped into the primary from the crankcase. I just spoke to th SM and he said that the "oil seal spacer" had come loose. Apparently the "spring loaded compensator bolt" had worked it's way out allowing a small amount of oil into the primary with each stroke. After consulting with my personal head mechanic and all around guru (Chief), the thought is that when the chrome inner primary was installed when the bike was new, the bolt was not properly free of oil. This could have led to the bolt backing out and causing the leak.
My hope now is that it will all be put back together in time for CHL.

Now it's all clear to me, Your interest in another bike :) They will get it fixed - way better to have too much oil than not enough (at Times) :)

Actually I've got a second bike. A 2002 Deuce FXSTDI that I like a lot but would trade it for the SERG in a minute.

Happy to help A.J.  ;)

At least you know what the problem was now, I hope they get it back together soon.

I spoke to my dealer this afternoon. They told me that they had to order p/n 40297-06 Compensator Assembly. The part is due to arrive Thursday morning. That's just in time for me to head down there and meet Chief on his Ride to the Wall. Hopefully they'll have me up & running for the long weekend.
