AHHH S*%T!!!!
« on: May 19, 2005, 07:10:24 PM »

It's a fact.  I have dropped every motorcycle I have ever owned at some point during my ownership.  Why should this one be any different?  I was pulling up in front of a friends house and hit some gravel.  Front wheel locked up and went right.  I managed to keep the bike up, but still put a little road rash on the right lower fairing.  Nicked the saddle bag a bit too!!  When something like this happens I just want to SPIT!!  Oh well, glad we resolved the touch up paint issue on the other thread!!  I should have never ordered that touch up paint!!  I know I would have been more careful!!  DAMNIT!!

P.S.  NO I WILL NOT POST PICTURES!!  DAMNIT!!

Eagle,

Tough break. [smiley=thumbsdown.gif]

Never like to hear of these things happening [smiley=cry2.gif] [smiley=furious.gif] [smiley=oops.gif]....... But it brings to mind some of the gentle (yelling and screaming) lessons I gave my wife when she first was learning to ride a street bike.

RULE #1: NEVER USE THE FRONT BRAKE WHEN COMING TO A STOP ON GRAVEL OR SLIPPERY/ICY ROADS! [smiley=nervous.gif]

RULE #2: TRY TO REMEMBER RULE #1. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I have not dropped the chicken yet but left it in gear and almost drove off the kickstand parking at Ocala HD on my way home.  Thank god the engine died rather than chug away and my left foot was planted to keep it up.  It still left an amatuer impression in front of about 200 riders getting ready for their run and provided a good laugh for all.  I also did the front brake thing turning around in front of my friends house for the first bike night out when I got home.  I got a pair of saddlebag guards taken off a new 05 EG on ebay for 100 shipped and will get them on as soon as they get here.  I have been riding for almost 40 years and never dropped one yet (high sides and real crashes which explain my use of a full face helmet excluded) but these things are unkind beasts when the weight gets out of balance.  I need to do some parking lot duty on the chicken to get comfortable with the low speed stuff and was told that the back brake is your best friend for this.  I definitely look like a ninny with my feet down below 5 MPH.  Shine her up, put on your helmet and enjoy the ride.  Be safe JP  [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

Does truely suck but at least you've got the first boo boo out of the way. I've yet to have mine but just know it's coming.

BTW - Same thing happens when you buy a new helmet, just a matter of time.

On my bike I was changing the windsheld when my wife walked into the garage, I looked up and the torx driver left a real nice scratch on my fairing. That was a nice little $600 mistake.
To make a long story short, there are a lot of us on this site who feel your pain! [smiley=drink.gif]

Use the rear brake to compensate and/or correct... letting off the gas takes away your stability. Get comfortable with the friction zone (where the clutch releases) too.  That'll help.  Brian what's that videotape/guy again?
