« on: May 16, 2008, 12:58:15 PM »

I have a 08 SERK got about 600 miles on it,getting a knocking noise coming from the rear of the chaincase, seems louder when its on the sidestand, dealer took off the cover and retorqued the front crank bolt and put blue locktite,he said he got about half a turn on it,but it still sounds the same, weird thing is it dont seem to do it all the time, and sometimes its worse than others, would love some suggestions.

Welcome aboard!  The most widespread noise has been rocker box clearances -- rockers hit the covers.  There are several posts here on that subject.

My 08' always sounded kind of noisy, then last weekend it started to have a really bad knocking noise mainly at idle. Sounded like it was from the ft head. I took the rocker box cover off and found the rocker arm holder assembly cracked. The ft right bolt was loose about a 1/8" or more, causing the stress on the rocker holder, I tightened it down and ordered a new holder ($35). It now is more quiet than ever. I figured while I was in there I wouldn't bother taking it in, to avoid the bullcrap or "why did you take it apart?" I would rather spend $35 bucks and be done in less than an hour, then leave my bike there for a couple weeks.

I looked to see if the valves were rubbing the lower rocker box cover like a lot of people have and it wasn't.

Not sure it that is where your noise is coming from, but mine was really loud mainly from the ft top cylinder area.

The bolts have lock-tite on them, but the one that was loose didn't appear to. Either way, it wasn't tight.

730 miles on my bike.
