tick-tick-tick
« on: May 18, 2008, 05:07:10 PM »

I seem to be hearing what sounds like a noisy lifter when I start my cold bike up, and for about 3 or 4 minutes on the road,

The noise goes away after the bike starts warming up.

And the bike seems to idle and run a little rough during this time too.

Any ideas ??

Drago,
Mine was tapping on cold start last weekend in the Catskills.  Went away after about 15 seconds.  Wasn't anything too noticable either, but I hear things like that from experience.  Surely didn't affect performance either.  Rod's Performance took care of it on Friday.  Nothing serious.  Pushrod adjustment.
Not sure for your's tho'.  Do you have adjustable pushrods?

Have a mechanic check the lifters, push rods and cams.  They may have started to wear and the noise could be caused by the increased slop.  May be time to replace them.

If it's on the 08 ultra mine has a tick all the time and it only has 1700 miles on it . Seams OK and has been in for regular service . Not sure what causes it but I think it's normal sounds amplified by having a fairing. I am not a mechanic but both ultra's I have had made the same sound.
