Engine light operation ??
« on: June 20, 2008, 08:02:07 PM »

Quick question for anyone who knows. Is it normal for the engine lamp to illuminate AFTER the engine is started and extinguish after a few seconds ? I just removed the T-Max ECM from my bike and re-installed the stock ECM and cannot recall if this was a normal condition with the stock ECM. Thanks in advance.

The light should illuminate when the switch is turned on, then go out.  If it comes on a second time after you start the engine and then goes back out after roughly eight seconds, that means you have a historic code stored.  Historic codes are indications of a previous fault that is not currently a problem.  Clear the code and if it doesn't return everything is fine.

It's not unusual to get these after changing the ECM.  Follow this link for instructions on reading and clearing codes:

Thanks Jerry,

Would it be easier for me to link to the ecm with my SERT and software and read/clear the code ? Is that possible ? Thanks

Just pulled and cleared these two codes - P0152 and P1010. I ran the motor for several minutes and they have not come back but I won't know for sure until I ride the scooter. Any ideas on what these codes could mean ?? I hope there is nothing wrong with my rear cylinder !!

P0152 is related to oxygen sensor voltage, and P1010 is related to a missing ECM "password".  I believe you will find that both of those were the result of changing from the T-Max back to the stock ECM, and now that you cleared the codes you should be good to go.

Thanks again Jerry,

You are 100% correct. I cleared the codes and nothing reappeared today after riding over 300 miles.
