I changed out the stock headlight reflector in favor of the Euro reflector a couple of weeks ago. I installed a set of Sylvania Osram 80/120 bulbs at the same time. I was previously running PIAA 100/110 bulbs. The Euro reflector changed the pattern of the light for the better. The Osram bulbs with the larger split between hi and low is nice however the low beam is terrible in comparison to the PIAA's. The PIAA's have a great low beam but not much of a light difference from low to hi other than a pattern change. I ordered another set of new PIAA's which are 125/135. When I went to pick them up from the local auto parts store Dan the manager asked why I didn't go with HID's. I said cost, and as quick as I said that he pulled up a web site with HID's (
www.xenonlink.com). We looked up my application and I ordered them. I purchased a hi/low beam setup for both lights for $170.00 shipped to my door. I went with the 6000K for the white look. The lights arrived at my door in about three days. The kit is pretty straight forward. It is all plug and play with the exception of a single hot and a few grounds. I joined all of the grounds together and routed them with the hot wire alongside the plug that plugs into the factory headlight harness. I used the two wires that are in my factory harness for the Euro bikes that use the little daytime ? running light. So I didn't have to cut or run any wires. I used double sided tape to attach the igniter's to the fairing. I installed them right above the headlight housing in the pocket, it was as if they were intended to go there. There is a third box which is what moves the shutter in and out on the bulbs to create the hi/low beam pattern. I wire tied that to the two igniter's.
A quick trip around the block had me wondering why I hadn't looked into this sooner. The speed limit signs glowed to the point where it looks like someone is shining a light at me. The distance that the lights shine is farther than I can see clearly and for that matter farther than I should be looking while riding. The low beams are fantastic as they illuminate a very wide pattern but not so far out that I'd be blinding other bikes following them. I believe some of this is due to the Euro reflector.
As for the light color. I went with the 6000K which is called pure white. It is so white that it appears to have a slight blue tint to it, sort of like ice. While this does not bother me I'd be curious what the 5000k or 5500k looks like.
For me this one of those mods I'll do immediately when I purchase a new bike. The beater bike is next as a candle is brighter than that headlight!
