questions
« on: May 28, 2008, 09:35:53 PM »

Well lets face it, I am a whole 5'1 and well I really want a touring bike, as am planning on riding to sturgis next year.  Now my real question is is it possible to lower a Glide of some king low enough to where i can stop safely.  I mean on a Street Glide I can sit with one foot near flat on the right side of the bike, but my left foot really doesnt touch the ground.

Hi Tommy2Tall,

You may want to check out a Softail deluxe. It has one of the lowest seat heights for HD and it can be outfitted with a windshield and saddlebags. As with any HD you can get a lower seat that will bring you about an inch lower and also a suspension lowering kit for the front and rear that will bring you down another inch. If money is not much of a concern you could get an air adjustable suspension with an on-board compressor to lower the bike when in a parking lot and raise it for the road so you don't loose ride quality.
I see you are in Va. Beach, you may want to check out the deluxe at Southside Harley in Va. Beach. Here is a shot of the tank.

Tommy I too am vertically challenged with a 29" inseam and as mentioned with the lowering kit and seat customization I was extremely comfortable on my SERK. I just did the same to my SECU and am waiting for the Arnott air suspension to complete the project and get a bit lower with the flick of a switch.

Installation complete and by the recommended instructions except for the micro switch placement. I chose the throttle side cover under my leg for ease of adjustment at red lights, etc. System works well and the QA-1 upgrade is adjustable for dampening starting with 4 clicks firm and go from there. Job took about three hours because the ABS made battery box removal for pump install very tedious. Took my time and regrouped and the results are absolutely premier. Also found out how to disarm the alarm for battery removal! WOW that siren is LOUD!

LOUD and goes on and on for quite some time, huh?  I had the same experience when I installed my Legend Air Suspension last year.  And there is nothing that you can do to stop it other then waiting it to time out.  Entertained the neighbors, though...   :2vrolijk_21:

My buddy Jon is a short guy also and he rides a Street Glide.  Besides the 12" shocks on the rear, he also put an HD Lowering kit on it, also.  He said that he did have to move the wiring from the inside top of the back fender to the inside, side of the back fender.  He also had the nose of his seat cut down from the stock width so he can reach the ground easier.  He doesn't have any problem reaching the ground.

Here's a link to see the photos of his Street Glide..........    http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=21811.0

Actually I called the service writer at the dealer and they talked me through the method the wrenches use.....turn ignition on while simultabeously pulling the main 40A fuse......or was it turn the ignition off while..

one or the other and it worked, :coolblue:

Have thought about the siren sounding two or three times today.  I don't remember for sure but damn I thought I remembered the electrical manual telling us to do more than just yanking the maxi-fuse like that.  Maybe we'd had more beer by that time.  Or not enough....  :huepfenlol2:

Most important thing is that she's done.  Will look forward to more reporting on the system after you've had the chance to use it for awhile.  Another of the crew around here is considering these or one of other alternatives so this will be information well worth passing along.
