Flagstaff Lodging Suggestions Please
« on: July 10, 2008, 05:45:56 PM »

A buddy and I are meeting up in Flagstaff on Friday Aug 1st. From there we’ll hit the Grand Canyon, go up through Monument Valley, Mexican Hat, over to Durango, and eventually most of Colorado. We’ll be looking for Flagstaff lodging, some place where we can walk to night life, dining, bars and the like. Any recommendations would be appreciated. In Monument Valley it looks like we’ll be staying at Gouldings Hotel since that’s the only place out there.

Thanks

Mark

My brother lives in Flag, just sent him an email to get recommendations. As far as Monument valley, unless you have a car or take a tour all you see is some dirt and rocks, great for movies, but not much else, can't ride your HD down the dirt roads in the valley. Just my opinion, but I'd either go up to Bryce canyon area, or cut over to Durango/Mesa Verde area. Like you saw not much of anywhere to stay near Monument. If you get up into northern Colorado let Cuthbertss and I know, we might be able to meet up! Below is a pic from the Bryce Canyon area.

This is a message back from my bro.

There is the Weatherford Hotel  weathfordhotel.com and the Monte Vista Hotel hotelmontevista.com. Both are right down town and have restaurants with bar on weekends they will be a little noisy till late at night.. There is also Embassy suites Inn which is only a couple of blocks away from downtown. I would make reservation ASAP because August is a big tourist month here in Flagstaff.

Monument valley is nice to ride thru but it only takes a couple hours and you are thru it. Utah SR12 is great between Bryce and Capitol Reef National Parks. I recommend Utah SR12 to anyone riding thru the area.

As you can tell I wasn't impressed with Monument, if I was going to chose between the three major attractions in that area, Monument would be last on the list, not bad, but Bryce and Mesa Verde offer much more. Below was taken about 6 or 7 years ago, but sums up my impressions of Monument, it's the parking lot there.
