couple of questions
« on: June 23, 2008, 04:00:27 PM »

Good afternoon everyone:

Two things:

I have the 06 CVO in Autumn Haze...completely stock. Can I add a K and N filter without remapping and what air box is needed?

2) noticed yesterday a slight leak just above the rear exhaust ...seems to be a leak at where the valve cover meets the head...anyone else (I was hoping that the nut on the corner of that cover was loose but when trying to tighten it, it was indeed quite snug already..are the valve cover gaskets known for having issues or do I simply need to pull the tank and re-torque the valve cover bolts?

Thanks All!!

The leak will suck air back into your head, that coupled with the K&N will make your bike run lean.

There is a stock style K&N that doesn't require changing the airbox.

You will need to map.

Hi T bone,
I have an 06 Haze also and I changed the air cleaner and exhaust at the same time since to me it doesn't make too much sense to suck in more air then have it get choked at the exhaust. I wanted more air in and more out too. Good news is that H-D does have a download you can use for the 2006 and you don't need the SERT or Power Commander to get it to run. Although those things will help along with a custom tune.
I had the dealership install an Arlen Ness Big Sucker Stage 1 (stage 2 is thicker and you can't use the stock air cleaner cover.) air cleaner setup. Using S&S as well as Vance & Hines techs I followed their advice and used the stock header pipes combined with the S&S SPO slip on mufflers. The dealership installed the race download and this setup runs great.

Okay, somebody will have to explain how a rocker box (valve cover) leak will suck air into the cylinder and lean the mixture.  There's no route unless the valve seals are WAY bad, and if that's the case the air leak is the least of the problems. :nixweiss:

I assume oil.  If so, remove the valve (rocker cover) and tighten the rocker housing bolts.  I had an oil leak on mine that weeped on the rear exhaust port and my rocker housing bolts were loose.
