Harley Photo Shoot
« on: June 29, 2008, 05:05:49 PM »

I heard from some friends that a group of riders in for a short stop at Rocklin HD last night claim they watched a Photo shoot last week in Alabama Hills, somwhere near Bishop Ca, last week. They say the area and roads leading into the shoot area was closed and and guarded by rent a cops and two large white transport trucks were in the area along with a helecopter which they claim was doing some swoupijg shots They heard from other onlookers that Harley was doing Photo Shoots for 2009 bikes. I checked out Alabama Hills on Google and looks like the whole areas is dirt roads. Not sure what kind of Photos they can generate in dirt, but i guess we will see somtime in near future.

Sure would have been nice to get a few sphy shoots of whatever.. Maybe their new water cooled touring??? emmm

Not hard to believe there was a photo shoot somewhere for the new bikes. Normally the press (magazines, etc) will see, get pictures, and test the bikes before the MoCo unveils them. This will allow them to have this info ready to release as soon as the MoCo has the dealer show. This has been done in years past.

Actually, if I remember correctly, those roads are DG.  DG (decomposed granite) can get almost as hard as concrete.  They may also be shooting still photos there.  Many old time westerns were shot in those hills......

You are correct that seems each year almost within a day or so of the drop of the curtain by the moco the official motopress articles, most of them soft pieces that are real almost like they were written directly from moco ad copy, start to show up.  In each of those articles are photos taken in public places by those reviewers (and most times much better quality than the actual moco photos) so that begs the questin why doesn't someone else with a camera ever show up around one of those press rides or photo shoots.  Just seems that a guy aiming to get spy shots could do it if he put his mind and wallet to the task.  The answer must be that there is not enough money in it and that the timing of the public placement of the bikes is so close in time to the actual unveiling that the moto rags could not make a buck by getting them to press on time far enough in advance of the official unveiling.

Been doing some Googling on Alabama Hills and cant find a map showing the actual location. Some website show pictures of some strange rock formations saying a lot of old western movies were made there. Half the sites say Alabama Hills is in Bishop and othrs say it's in Lone Pine. Where the hell is Alabama Hills?

Just west of Lone Pine, Bishop is the best known town for reference.
