what to expect since I've never opened up a fairing.

Old pair of socks over the spotlights  :2vrolijk_21:

and somewhere on this site is a picture of the fairing screws - use a magnet for the ones underneath for WHEN you drop the screws.

I have an antenna above the radio doesn't work for me so I just use the antenna on the rack. My tourpak antenna holes are plugged.
I use two "rubber duckie" style antenna, one that is straight for no tourpak and one the is bent that I fold under the tourpak when it is on.

The discussion on how many openers would work got my curiosity up and I thought this deserved some homework so I scoured the catalog to find the answer.  You can operate one receiver with up to EIGHT transmitters.  The only place this is described is under the "Remote Control Garage Door Opener Key Fob" P/N 91569-01.  Seems like this would be good information for the receiver description instead.

Gotta love the catalog item description gurus at H-D!

That is correct for the Fob- However this thread started out as the Flick of the High beams transmitter (not the same type) so the FOB would be just something else to carry.

Just plug the reciever into an extension cord for the timing with the bike transmitter.  It doesn't have to be hook to the opener.  You'll hear it "click" when it's working as you toggle the headlight.  That way you can work in peace!
Articdude - Thanks for the suggestion to just plug the receiver into an extension cord while doing the two-click thing.  It worked slick as the proverbial whistle!  My Craftsman opener had the four wire set up and I followed another members suggestion to simply short two pair to find out which one worked.  Anyhow the receiver is mounted about 8" away from the opener and everything works just fine.  I'm a cappy hamper!

brhulen-
You mean you guys actually close the door in the "summer"?!?!  All I saw were open from about the end of May to the middle of August.   Of course, they didn't open from August to May; but that's another story!!  Just fire up the snowmachine and boogey!

I programmed mine as per the instructions and it initially worked fine.  A week later and now I have to pull up almost on top of the door before it will open??

Any ideas??  :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

If the range has changed try the easy thing first.  Fiddle with the position/twist/orientation of the antenna lead on the receiver.  Sometimes a little bit of difference there makes a big difference in range.

Just to clarify . . .

The only time I need to switch from Hi beam to Low "twice" is during programming, afterwards to "open/close"  just toggle once . . . right??

Only problem with that is most openers only "memorize" 4 remotes.

So if you have 2 cars, the bike, wireless keypad you are at the max. If you program someone else's to work you will lose the first remote.

After your test you'll end up having to reprogram all four of your remotes to remove the visitor remote - PIA

I have a Genie Professional installed and am currently running 2-bikes, a truck, 2-cars, and a wireless keypad with no problems at all.

brhulen,

The extension cord idea didn't work for me. I would program the receiver, but as soon as I unplugged it from the extension cord to plug it in the outlet I would lose the program.

Shouldn't have.  If you lose household power for some reason it's not necessary to reprogram the garage door receivers after all.  Not saying at all that it wasn't happening.  Could be some problem in the receiver.  But it shouldn't be behaving that way.

Just a shot in the dark here but all of the outlets in my garage are wired to a single GFI outlet.

If the GFI trips all the outlets are dead.  I found out the hard way . . . had a freezer in the garage and when the GFI tripped, the freezer thawed out.
