V&H True Dual Head Pipes or OEM Crossover ??
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:20:45 PM »

On my 06 CUSE, Stock powertrain other than Zippers high flow, SERT.
I am wrestling with putting on V&H true dual headpipes with Rinehart slip on's or staying with stock crossover and Rinehart slip on's Then having Tuned.
Concerns or not concerns ?

1.V&H duals have better fit and are not as loud as Rinehart true dual (smaller diameter and not stepped)
2.Will bottom end torque suffer like the Rinehart True Dual ? They perform like a scalded dog at high rpm but suffer out of the gate.
3.Will the tuner be able to tune rear cylinder as precise with the crossover compared to True dual set up ?

Looking for good sound advice from riders here with tried and trued experiences.

I'm running V&H True Dual Big Shots with PCIII, gained on HP & TQ. Then installed Big City Thunder QC Baffels again gained HP & TQ. May have cooled engine off a little but it cooled momma off  :huepfenjump3: :huepfenjump3: by getting rid of the cross over pipe.

Not familiar with Big City Baffles, Where do you install them ?

You will notice a little gain in low end torque with the non-stepped headers and a little loss of high-end horsepower.  Obviously, the best set up is a two-in-one over true duals.   But a lot of people don't like the single pipe look on a bagger.  For that, D&D makes a ghost pipe for their 2-in-1 Fat Cats that you can purchase for the left side to give a balanced look.  I have the V&H true duals on my Jester and am getting good torque and HP numbers (see my signature below).  I'm running V&H Pro Pipe 2-in-1 on my Street Glide and am really getting to like the single pipe look on it.   So eventually, I may change to a 2-in-1 on the Jester.  But for now, I really like the looks of the two oval mufflers on the Jester.

You remove the stock baffels and the BCT baffels install min. 6" from rear of pipe. Go to BigCityThunder.com

The problem with the stock header is that 95% of your gases from both cylinders come out of the right side pipe. The left side pipe might as well be a ghost pipe. IMO I would loose the stock exhaust and go with something like what your already considering.

There is a third option, convert the stock to true dual w/ a balance tube.
At the junction of the rear to the main right, reduce the exhaust flow to the right with a welded in washer for a smaller hole for exhaust gas transfer between the two cylinders. Done properly there can be a balance obtained between both cylinders and they both will breath.
Just a thought for a less expensive option.

I have V&H true duals on my 06 SEUC, with the oval exhausts.  I have been extremely pleased with them.   :cherry:

I  had the V&H true duals for about 20,000 miles and after my latest try to get my "perfect" sound I switched to the Rush tru duals.  I have a cleaner or crisper sound with  them, the rear header pipe is a better fit,my TMAX o2 sensor fits without having to tweak the bung to clear the trans cover. I think the coating also helps the flow which makes me feel the bike also runs better, seat of the pants.
