Fullsac vs. Rush
« on: September 29, 2008, 04:48:23 PM »

Can anyone provide a comparison of the CVO 4" mufflers with the Fullsac conversion with 1 3/4" baffles and the Rush mufflers with 1 3/4" baffles?

DakotaZeb, I just received my baffles from FullSac. When I get them on I will let you know as my buddy has a set of Rush on his machine.

I am looking to modify the baffles with some insulation in the future...just have to find some high heat material.

Thanks SixGun,  I'll be waiting for your follow up.

I emailed Steve a Fullsac and asked him wo compare the stock CVO mufflers with his 1 3/4" baffles and the tourning mufflers he sells with 1 3/4" baffles.  He said the CVO's are much quieter because they have a layer of sound absorbing material in them.  Thus I'm going to assume that the CVO's will also be quieter than the Rush.  But we will see what you think.

Of course, in addition to being somewhat quiet, how do they sound?  Is it a good sound?

I have installed the 1 3/4" Fullsac baffles on my SERG and am very happy with them.  With a good race tune, Fullsac baffles and drilling the cat I've increased my horsepower by 18.3% (95.8 HP) and torque by 19.1% (112.3 TQ).

Here's a video I pulled together as I've made exhaust changes.  If you have good speakers on your PC you can certainly tell the difference in the exhaust note changes.

Well I have one baffle in, the next will be easier. As stated there is some insulation in the CVO muffler...However, after the continued beating I had to do to get the baffle out it upset the insulation a bit. So as a true gearhead I had to pull it out and see what's in there.

It was dry and cracking...now I'm screwed...I will have to search for an insulation substitute.

I will take a picture of the muffler insulation tomorrow so y'all can see what it looks are like inside.

I found some "Ceramic Blanket" material that will withstand 2600 degrees. I hope that will fix it.

There is also a screen around the stock baffle to keep the insulation from getting into the baffle...V&H take note!

If the FullSac baffles turn out to be too loud, then CAT Cutout will seem to be the last and final option in my quest for performance and sound.

At the end of the day it just shows the OCD I have for CVO perfection...

Here's a picture of the material taken from the end of the pipe.  You can see the screen that surrounds it in this photo.  It would be cool to see what it looks like out of the pipe as well if you can get one.

SixGun,

I just tried the Cat cutout on a set of stock CVO mufflers.  They sounded terrible.  I can't even describe the sound it was so bad.  But if you want a set I have some I'll sell cheap.

I have an '06 SE Ultra with V&H true duals.

You, l ike me and many others are looking for a mufflers that will give decent performance with a good sound that is louder than stock and quieter than the aftermarket mufflers.  Personally, I don't think that muffler existes.  I'm running the V&H Monster Ovals right now and they are too loud on long trips.  Okay around town but after a couple hundred miles the droan gets to me.

Dakota, The Supertrapp Mufflers with tuneable disc.s will do exactly what you want them to do you can control sound levels as you wish by adding or removing discs, I ran them on my 07 SE Ultra and they were perfect, Unfortunately on my 09 SE RG the 3in pipes with tapered tips do not look as nice as the big 4 in SE touring mufflers im running, im keeping them in reserve, I think they would be perfect on your 06

My ceramic blanket material should be in this week. I'll wrap my Fullsac baffles and put em back in and let you know how it sounds.

Haven't got the material..I have a tracking number, should be here this week.

I'm taking a stock set of mufflers to my dyno guy and running the numbers, then I am taking those off and putting the Fullsacs on and re-run the numbers...If I like what I see I will do a full tune.

I'll post here with pictures.

Thanks,
FYI: I ordered a set of baffles from Steve @ Fullsac, and we got to talking. I think we both agreed that when you install the new baffles, it would be a little quieter with an air gap between the baffle and the wall of the muffler, this should help with the sound levels. I will try a couple of different setups when I get my baffles. I have access to steam pipe insulation that I thought may hold up in the muffler. My mufflers now have a layer of fiberglas next to the muffler wall, held in with a mesh (stock cvo mufflers, without the core baffle). My current setup is older stock Screaming Eagle mufflers, but, they are a little too loud with true duals. Lets see how all this works out!

I received my 1/4 inch material today and the 1 inch material will be here this week as well.

Don't know exactly how I am going to wrap em yet. I think I will take the screen from the stock pipes and wrap it around the baffles similar to what the stock ones had.

Then I think I'm going with one layer of the 1 inch Ceramic Blanket...that should disapate some of the noise.

I was also thinking that several wraps of thinner might work also...

As I stated in previous threads, the reason for the Ceramic Blanket material is to see if it won't melt like the stock does. However, I am not familiar with this material due to it being used typically in industrial applications.

The V&H pipes insulation I had melted in about 10 miles of use and then blew out the back all over the bike! I pulled the baffle out and about 12 inches of insulation was down to 2 inches in the end.

FYI: I got my Fullsac 1 3/4 baffles installed on my 113" evo. Left the OEM fiberglas and screen as is inside the CVO mufflers. Sound is very nice, maybe a little too quiet for my tastes. I'll be using the 2" baffles on my '09, that way I can pull baffles out of one bike to try in another. Eventually, up on the dyno for both bikes, I am curious as to numbers as the EVO has an S&S, and the '09 is stock.
Bottom line: the new cores in the CVO mufflers sound pretty damn good!
