The demo fleet has been at Bumpus all week.  Pulled in last Sunday morning and demos all week until tomorrow, Sunday, Aug 3rd.  MJZ posted some photos in the pictures thread I think.  He & I both really like the new SE Ultra, rides really sweet.  Definitely could breath better but I didn't think it was a dog bone stock.  Couple observations - the seat & riding position is totally different from my previous ultras.  Sits you much farther back if you reach the backrest.  My arms were stretched straight out riding straight down the road and I just could reach the highway pegs.  I'm not tall at all but no midget either.  My '07 sits much better for me.  Also the nose of the seat is much wider than before which spreads your legs and makes flat footing the bike more of a challenge.  I didn't have a problem but it sure was noticeably different.

Also the new 2 into 1 into 2 exhaust is darn near a 2 into 1 it seems to me.  Peeked under the bike at the crossover and it is really, really small.  Cranked her up and put my had behind the muffs.  Very little coming from the left side, less that with the old style crossover system it seems to me.  So I expect this would help the performance.  Sure is quiet and very, very smooth.

We actually had a new 2008 and 2009 Ultra Classic side by side at the dealer today to compare the exhaust sound. The 2009 sounds a little louder and throatier then the 08. We also did the engine shake test, where you grab the front brake at idle. The 2008 shakes violently, the 2009 idles smooth as silk. Also, I'm hot familiar with the heat shield in the accessory catalog, but isn't it a one piece unit? I noticed the factory heat shields on the 2009's are two piece, not a big deal, but just curious.

No, it is two pieces. Both sides are different. Because of the new frame the, '09 ones are different from anything '01 through '08 (PN # 58022-07A).

Ride safely,

I've only seen pictures, and from that vantage, I think all three are simply beautiful.  There is nothing there that would make me consider a purchase, and certainly nothing there that would make me trade the Watermelon.  I'm an 06 and older kinda guy anyway.  I'm just now beginning to understand those machines.  In my own personal opinion, the new ones are becoming like cars...................difficult for owner maintainability/sustainment.

They are pretty tho'.
