Lowering the rear of FLTRSE3
« on: April 15, 2009, 09:46:48 PM »

Newbie. Just got my 09 SERG. Bought a 2000 SERG new in 2000. Loved that bike. Way cool. Sold it to buy 09. But this new bike is off the hook. Stumbled onto this site and love it. Anyway, Has anyone lowered the rear successfully on one yet? If this has been covered else where could you point me in that direction please.

I have not lowered mine but I would suggest thinking of progressive coil overs with adjustable springs. I tried just lowering with a shorter air shock on my FLHR but was not happy with the results. Needed to keep high pressure in the shocks to keep from bottoming out. No air on the progressive coil overs yet still adjustable.

just my opinion

I have had mounted the 11.5" heavy duty progressives - Awful , put them out after the first ride with BSR ( 87 kg + 53 kg = 140 kg total , should not be too much ) , but bottoming very very often and ugly rumble and vibrations , extremely when opening the throttle and coming out of a curve .
For the first i put in the stock 12" air-shocks back again - mucho better than the progressives - save your bucks .
Whe thinking about changing the shocks then take the best : http://www.wilbers.de/index.php
or bitubos ( but i have no experiences with )

I have Progressive's on my CVO Ultra, and they do not bottom out at all. Did you set the dial to correct setting for the bike and weight? On my last CVO Ultra I have tried Wilbers and Öhlins without much success. I could not find an improvement over stock, and that was in old frame. With the new frame the new Progressive's work very well.

Ride safely,

Did you set the dial to correct setting for the bike and weight?
What do you mean ?
I installed them 4 screws , turned them to the highest level and they bottomed , with BSR was very awful , in solo-ride was ok .

Sounds fair, but I have them set on the middle, and no issues. My weight is 78 kgs, my wife 50 kgs ...

Hang on guys, you're comparing apples to oranges.
the 09 SERG is lowered from the factory, It has the shorter shocks, the 09 SEUC is not. let's not get someone screwed up here.

From the info I am getting from the shock company's. Because the rear is lowered from the factory and the tire is so close to the fender it is near impossible to lower any more. I had my 2000 serg lowered with the factory shocks and white bothers kit and loved the look. Only rubbed the fender with a healthy bsr. And the search continues.

I have Progressives on 2 of my bikes, love 'em!
'09 Ultra, overloaded, pulling a heavy trailer, 2-up.........works fine,
Mine are 440's, '09 110/150 springs (I think) other shocks are 90/110 on the evo.
I have tried other shocks, but, these work the best for my application.
I am on a road trip with the '09 and trailer, so far, wonderful ride quality, and you can adjust the preload with no tools!
Hope this helps a little.

maybe hat`s the reason , addittional the 18" wheels , i did not found any tire-contacts but what the hell do i know when pulling the throttle and the fender goes down perhaps . Definitely the 11.5" shocks are nothing for me .
