I had new grips installed this past Saturday. On the ride home from the dealer, the cruise, which had worked perfectly on the way over there an hour ago, mysteriously sh!t the bed.

So, I got off at the next exit and turned around and went back. Tech was totally baffle how the he!! changing grips could have f'd up the cruise. I said, "I hear ya, but I'm leaving on a 2,000 mile trip a week from tomorrow and I ain't doing it without cruise." So, he went to work methodically diagnosing the problem, starting with the set/resume switch.
To make a long story short, what ended up being the problem were the connections on the neck, in front of the fuel tank. At the cruise roll-off switch there are 2 wires that runn along the main harness, One of those had become dislodged, he believes when the tension was taken off of the idle cable when doing the grip swap, and caused the cruise to stop working.
LOL, 8-year Tech who said he could do grips in he sleep, let alone never had a comeback for them, and here was one. I thought he did a helluva job dianosing the problem, which was hidden behind my Kuryakyn neck covers, especially since the diagnosis mode via the ECM did not show him anything was wrong, and there were no cruise faults stored, either.
Not saying this is your problem, but it's an easy place to check (at least if you don't have them d@mn neck covers like I got!

).
