When mine went out it was the right hand switch. Check voltage see if it is coming out of the switch.

Uh, yeah. Get the service manual. It goes step by step. First thing is to look at the diagnostic codes. All in the manual.

Depending on what it is doing it is likely the Cruise control module.

Trust me and my experience ...Just take it to a dealer

Do your brake lights work?  A friend has an 07 Ultra and the stoplight switch in the front brake lever broke (keeping the brake lights on) and the cruise would not engage.
Also check the fuse-works for stoplights/brake lights.

As Coyote stated, there can be a lot of reasons why the cruise does not work and a manual would help.

or the roll off switch on the throttle cable.

or you need to reset the lash

or ask a dealer

no simple 1 step fix to CC doesnt work

I had new grips installed this past Saturday.  On the ride home from the dealer, the cruise, which had worked perfectly on the way over there an hour ago, mysteriously sh!t the bed. :confused5:  So, I got off at the next exit and turned around and went back.  Tech was totally baffle how the he!! changing grips could have f'd up the cruise.  I said, "I hear ya, but I'm leaving on a 2,000 mile trip a week from tomorrow and I ain't doing it without cruise."  So, he went to work methodically diagnosing the problem, starting with the set/resume switch.

To make a long story short, what ended up being the problem were the connections on the neck, in front of the fuel tank.  At the cruise roll-off switch there are 2 wires that runn along the main harness,  One of those had become dislodged, he believes when the tension was taken off of the idle cable when doing the grip swap, and caused the cruise to stop working.

LOL, 8-year Tech who said he could do grips in he sleep, let alone never had a comeback for them, and here was one.  I thought he did a helluva job dianosing the problem, which was hidden behind my Kuryakyn neck covers, especially since the diagnosis mode via the ECM did not show him anything was wrong, and there were no cruise faults stored, either.

Not saying this is your problem, but it's an easy place to check (at least if you don't have them d@mn neck covers like I got! ;) ;D). :2vrolijk_21:

That's weird.  I thought if the roll off was was simply unhooked the cruise control still engaged.  At least it did on my 2000 Road King.  Put on braided cables that didn't have the switch in them.  Still had cruise.

I dunno, that's what I understood him to say.  Even if I completely misunderstood (totally possible), whatever he found wrong was underneath that cover and a quick fix and thankfully wasn't the switch or the module.

I am definately going to buy a service manual. It isn't like I use the cruise all the time. The fact that the damn thing doesn't work is what is cheesing me off.lol  :soapbox:

Who knows?  The only thing cruise related that would have been beneath the cover is the roll off switch.  So if he fixed it there that's it.  The Road King ran for with cruise but without even having the switch on the bike 30k miles that I had it though.   :nixweiss:

It does still work, Don.  What I think <reading between the lines> the problem he had was the cable (the one with the switch in) was left with too much free play after he changed the grips.  If that happens, CC gets really upset. Don't ask me how I know....  ::)
