The filter element part # on the 2004 FLHTCSE is the same as that on a stock twin cam motor.  That is per the parts catalog, part # 29461-99.  The difference that I see is the back plate is a different part # from the FLHTCSE to the stock motor.  Hope that helps.

You are correct,  min wage parts guys are very misinformed most of the time. My dealer has the same parts mgr for some time now, but has different parts guys constantly. They come and go. You ordered the correct parts. The bike will come with the same breather element as the 88" bikes, the backing plate is different, but it is still a black plastic part with a few more intake holes, not a open unit like the S/E Pro unit you ordered. Stick to your original plan, you are more informed than the counter person.

The Screamin Eagle Electra Glide comes with a Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner.  However, it is not "the" Screamin Eagle Air Cleaner that we all want and buy.  The stock air cleaner gets the bike past the EPA however, you want the performance air cleaner.......which you've ordered.

You can help educate your parts guys, now.

Do the 2009's have the complete Screamin' Eagle kit with the performance backing plate or is it just the SE air cleaner ? My Fatboy has the SE A/C Kit #29440-99C installed and I'm getting ready to trade it in. I paid $135 dollars for the kit and another $150 for the download. If I'm not getting the same performance air system on the SEUC, I'd sure like to put on my old plate on before trading. If I need to do the swap, will the bike run ok ?

Old plate will not work with the bigger TB on the new bike.

The new bike does not come with the performance air cleaner, nor can you get a "download".  You will have to use other means to change the ECM, like SERT, PCIII, etc.

Check the link below, This set up "Max Flow Kit" works very well and you get to choose your backing plate...... Chrome one of course...... Don't forget you will need some choice of a fuel management device (I.E. SERT, Auto tune.. etc) to make the engine perform to it's full potential.
Best of Choices...

All right, I understand now that I need a high flow air filter like a K&N. Do I have to replace the backing plate because it's more restrictive or because the stock plate doesn't fit the round filters ? The Zipper setup looks good but exposed filters like that cause problems in the rain don't they ?

As far as fuel management, I had plans to go with a PCIII from fuelmoto.com unless the SERT is a better option.

Mike,
What bike do you own? It's a possibility you already have the highflow backplate.

I'm in process of buying a 2009 CVO Ultra and hope to pick it up on saturday.

Mike, the CVO Ultra's come with a modified air box (black plastic full enclosure) that has a few more holes in it to let more air in.  If you want a true Stage 1 setup, you will need to replace that air box and filter element with an open design like the SE kit.  You aren't limited to the H-D part, there are excellent alternatives from other companies that come with a K&N filter (unless something has changed recently, the H-D kit uses a cheap knock-off washable element).  As you noted, some of the higher flow models use a deeper filter element which will leave some of the filter exposed when using a standard cover, and will space the cover out further into your leg.  For those who don't mind that it's fine, but you should be aware of it before you start buying parts.  You will also note that the SE kit indicates you can't use your stock CVO cover with the round filter element.  You actually can use it, but you need to take steps to adapt the cover to fit the round element securely with no shaking or movement.  There are several other threads that talk about that issue.

Mike,

Zippers kit is not a exposed filter... The stock "Football" cover fits over the filter. hope this helps

Depends on which filter you choose.  The MaxFlow will space the cover out an additional 3/4" from stock, which will expose the inboard edge of the filter element when using a stock cover.
-------------------------------------------------------------

"Two filter depths are offered, standard HiFlow and MaxFlow:

HiFlow keeps the outer cover at the same location as stock.

MaxFlow version moves the cover out approximately 3/4" wider due to the extra deep MaxFlow filter element.

HiFlow is recommended for stock engines; the MaxFlow filter should be used on modified engines with high flow exhaust systems for best results. All required mounting hardware and instructions included."
