FLHTCUSE3 Service
« on: August 18, 2008, 02:12:47 PM »

Getting different responses on service timelines...  Owner's manual says one thing, local HD dealer says another, and another HD dealer said something else.  What are recommended mileage timelines?

Hard to refute what is in owner's manual imo.  Dealers may say to do services more often but guess what - they're getting paid more often.  Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?

Of course in general it can't hurt anything to change fluids more often than required but you'll have to be the judge if it is worth it to you.

I'm at work and don't have manual but I think it is like 5k for motor oil/filter; 10k for primary and 20k for tranny.  At the 5k intervals there are checklists of items to check and remedy as necessary.

I do as Ultrafxr says using full synthetic oils (not the Syn3 MOCO product).

Out of curiosity, what are you using?  If not HD oil, any issues with warrantly?

I do my engine oil every 2500 miles, and the Trans and Primary every 5000 miles. I use Mobil 1 V-Twin in the engine, Redline Shockproof Heavy in the Trans, and Redline MTL in the Primary. I constantly monitor the overall condition of everything else and make adjustments/repairs as necessary. I usually go by the manual for the maintenance intervals of the other items. ;)

I use the same lubricants as Hoist.  But I don't change as often - 5k for engine oil & filter; 10k for primary & tranny.

I do the same time intervals as UltraFXR but I use Amsoil 20/50 in the motor and I use Formula + in the Primary and Tranny.

Vtwin-Redline 20W50

primary-Redline MTL

Tranny-Redline shockproof

You should have no problems with warranty using any brand of motor oil as long as it meets/exceeds the MOCO's spec's..

Any quality gear lube such as Amsoil or Redline will be better than the crap Syn3 that's in there now.
