Chrome Front Fork Air Baffle
« on: August 20, 2008, 12:19:13 AM »

I saw this on an '07 SEUC - owner says it seems to help with the cylinder cooling.  I'm not sure exactly what this baffle is supposed to do.  Anyone have any experience, feedback, or recommendations regarding this.

Have had it on all my RK's for years. The black one used to be stock. It'll really not do much, if anything for cooling, but it helps buffeting a little. I still use it. ;)

Have it on my :pumpkin: it will help w/wind buffeting coming from under the fairing back into your face. As far as cooling effect don't really know, but you would think w/the wind not blowing back in your face and by the design of that piece it would direct air back down onto front jug. :nixweiss:

Ditto, for the money, it is a great little addition to the bike.  Well worth while.    :2vrolijk_21:

I use it because like Howie said it does cut down on wind buffeting somewhat, it's more chrome and it looks good.  But it does deflect wind flow from the rider.  In cold weather that's a good thing.  There is a H-D tech bulletin that suggests removing the baffle during hot weather to aid in rider comfort.  If I can find it I'll post it.  But whether it gets more or less air to the motor - I have no idea.

I heard that it could help to minimize the wobbling... :confused5:

I always have it on my Touring bikes. On the Road King I am certain it stabilizes at high speeds. On the Electra Glide I am not so sure, but my experience with the '08 SEUC was so bad altogether, that the little baffle was not really part of my observation. It used to be stock several years ago. I think the MoCo discontinued mounting it when the fairing lowers came out. But I am not certain about that.

It came stock on my last Ultra, so I put it on my '07 cuz it looked empty there without it....

These used to be stock on Electra Glide platform bikes and I had one on my Electra Glide Classic. When I got my '06 SEUC I immediately noticed a blast of air coming up between the front of the gas tank and the lower fairing. It tended to cause my glasses to flutter on my face at high speed (especially with that worthless low windshield). I put on the chrome baffle and changed to a 9" shield. I still get a little buffeting from the shield, but the air blast between the tank and fairing is greatly reduced due to the baffle and is a really noticable improvement on a cold ride.

Take a look at the under side of one.  It catches and/or deflects a lot of bugs that would otherwise end up on the front underside of the gas tank, in your face, or on the top of the nice chrome engine head.  Worth the money to me!
