Hose clamp pliers
« on: September 29, 2008, 01:48:01 PM »

Hello all, I'm looking for a hose clamp pliers for installing and uninstalling the clamps on fuel connectors (also for pinching the fuel line).  Thanks!

For removing the MOCO fuel clamps, I used side cuts.
To install the clamp and make the crimp, I just squeezed the top of the clamps with side cuts to the point of not cutting into the clamp. This tip was from 2lane.  (the clamp tightens with very little pressure.
As you can tell, I don't have the special pliers and made do with what I had.

Yeap, they'll work if you're careful.  Another tool that is also relatively common that will work (but is still cheaper to go buy than the "special" tool) is set of end nippers.  Here's a Channelock version but others are out there for less than ten bucks.

They do Bob.  I've got a pair of end nippers that I took a grinding stone in the Dremel tool to flatten down the cutting jaws just a bit.  So for nine bucks have the $40 special crimping tool :P .  The side cutters will work also though.  Just have to be careful as you described.  And sometimes you need to get at them from the side rather than straight on.  So it's nice to have the option.

I bought a set at the auto parts store. I think it was $8.00 for it.

The clamp is common on cars so the tool is cheep now at auto stores.
