If I decide to go gear drive
can I use my stock cams? Will they work?
Or are they for chain drive only?

Sorry man, you have to buy new cams as well as the gear drive kit.  The cams turn in opposite directions with the gear drives, unlike the chain version, and have to be ground with that in mind.

Yes. Frequently cams are offered in both chain drove or gear drive configurations.

You won't find any Screamin' Eagle brand gear drive cams, but the other folks like Andrews, Zippers, S&S, Crane, etc. have both gear and chain versions of their cams.  If you check their catalogs you'll see what I mean.
