SE Pushrods : Adjustable or not ?
« on: September 25, 2008, 04:10:37 PM »

I plan to put the SE 251 cams on my CUSE 3 during this winter.
I look the changement of my pushrods.

Question :

Is it an improvement to put the SCREAMIN’ EAGLE PRO PERFECT FIT PUSHRODS ? ( # 18400-03)
Is it a good idea ?
Or is it better to put SCREAMIN’ EAGLE® QUICK-INSTALL PUSHROD KIT ? ( # 17997-99A)

Thanks for your advises and comments.

Jacques,

A one piece pushrod is lighter, stronger, and more reliable than the adjustables.  If you plan on having the top end apart,  I would go with the perfect fit rods.  If you are trying to avoid pulling the rocker covers and rockers, then the only choice is the quick install adjustables.

Just my opinion, but I'd go with the SE257 (my choice) or SE258 if you're changing cams. The 257 comes on a bit sooner than the 258, but the 258 revs a bit higher having more duration. Both are as I said in my opinion a better cam than the 251 How did you come to decided on the 251 ?

Is your cam's choice for the 110ci ? (SE 257 or 258 )
I've mounted the 251 on my CUSE2 and I was happy with the improvement. I've this set with only 2000 miles (time between the leaks on my CUSE2 and before the exchange for CUSE3).
SE 251 cams are bolt-in.
I've not tested the SE 257 or 258. Do you think that it's better improvement vs 251 ?

You will need more compression and head work to make those cams work. You may even think about a larger throttle body!!!!

That's what I've read ....  not my choice !

I've a 50mm TB, is it realistic a 58 mm TB without head work and higher compression ?

I've read in this thread : http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=27716.15
Just buy the pistons with the compression ratio you want.
Save your money and get some of this done to your heads.

This answer is not to my attention but is it an other way ?
Is it not necessary to change the ACR and heads ?

What will be the result with more compression ?

I wish not  :jack: but I think we are some owners that look for more torque between 1800 - 4000 with more HP a less cost and not too far of the warranty terms.
In my case, my dealer will make the modifications with the recall/upgrade.

If you are going to do the build and want to do it right to maximize your TQ. Yes you do want to buy some 10.5 to 1 pistons, mill the heads 30 thou, have the heads cleaned up and do a good performance valve job and change the springs. I would also buy adjustable push rods ( tapered ) and look for a cam with a high lift and a lower duration. Also the 58 mm TB is a good choice.

Then hold on. You will have a TQ monster.
