Moto Lights on Screamin Eagle Ultra #1069
« on: September 12, 2008, 03:08:02 PM »

Living in Alaska and especially now that we are rapidly losing light I went ahead and purchased a set of the caliper mounted moto aux lights.  I upgraded to the 50 watt bulbs, grooved rings and braided chrome cables.  My question is, has anyone installed these yet and how satisfied were you with the performance.  I'm not concerned with the "be seen" as much as the "see" aspect with all the huge critters lurking in the ditches.  If nothing else 'll let you all know.  I will say that they were very pleasant to deal with on the phone with very quick shipping.  4500 miles on her, and still no leaks.

Firedood,

Thanks for the information.  that is exactly what I was looking for.  I'm going to go ahead and buy a package of the chrome tie wraps to finish it off.

Warm regards,

Brett

I installed a set on my 2008 SERK some time ago. Well worth the effort. Here's some info from my earlier SERK post that may be of some help with your installation.

My chrome set of lights came with the wrong brake caliper mounting bolts. I called Motolights and they sent me another wrong pair of bolts. The Brembo brakes on my 2008 SERK required M10 X 50mm metric bolts. It took me a couple of weeks to find stainless steel metric bolts that fit the brackets and my bike. My suggestion is to pay attention to this and do not go cheap or quick by using the wrong bolts. And torque the bolts properly. You do not want one of these bolts snapping off when you need the ABS to stop you in a hurry.

The mounting brackets did not fit properly on my Brembo calipers. I emailed Motolights about the bracket problem (and provided them the bolt information). After waiting over a month with no response from Motolights, I proceeded to custom-fit my mounting brackets by grinding away small amounts of the brackets until they fit properly.

A friend of mine had a chrome set installed on her '07 Road Glide by her dealer. She paid $800.00. I paid $480.00 for my chrome lights, no braided cable and 2 50W lamps. The correct mounting bolts cost about $4.50. And I estimate the PITA factor as 6 on the 10-point scale. But those lights make one huge difference in seeing and being seen.

Good informaton on the correct bolts.  I'll be sure and double check them.  Might be awhile before I get around to installing them, but will attempt to post pics when done.  Thanks to all who replied.

Brett this is a very good investment.  It makes the bike a little safer and fairly easy to remove if you decide to sell your bike.  I had a set install in Daytoni Beach during bikeweek 2008 on my CUSE3.  I think they really stand out in fowl weather.  $550 was pretty still but the bike was $35,500 +tt&l.  Get them, they are worth it.

halfbad,

I already bought them.  I'm taking the bike up to the dealer on the 23rd to replace the heads and heated grips, and when I get it back I'll install them.  I got the grooved rings, chrome wiring harness, and 50 watt bulbs, free S&H for $425.  Not a bad deal, tell her you'll vote for Sarah.

I installed the 50 watt moto lights and they are great for being seen but do not light up the road and ditches as I had hoped.  HD44
